I think it was triggered as he was passing a car who moved off track out of the way for him. Would have been a bit bonkers if he'd been punished tbh - completely different ballpark from ignoring actual double flags and a stationary car.
Interesting as BrightLampShade posted a tweet that appeared to show a flashing yellow board. The tweet seems to have been deleted now it's back on page 3 of this thread. Reading the statement doesn't seem that clean in that it says the board was activated for less than a second - so if it didn't show a flashing yellow (3 to 4 hz is rule) then it was faulty! I am glad he didn't get penalised but if it was flashing then he should be penalised.
Can't see the point of appealing it. No flags, no messages, on for LESS than a second while already in the marshaling zone... Unless they expect drivers to use telekinesis, that would be a harsh punishment.
I'm pretty sure that was flashing white, but could be wrong. He was coming up on a slowing car at the time.
Surely his gearbox is okay, didn’t look a big shunt in comparison to LeClerc in Monaco as an example? What would the penalty be if he replaced? 5? 10 places?
Think it's only 5 places. Shortly after the impact when he went across the track it looked like you could see the drive shaft wobble so maybe it's just the equivalent of the inner cv joint? I think the problem might be that the impact was at 90 degrees to the gearbox so all the load pushed the driveshaft into the gearbox. I wonder if they make the drive shaft collapse under that sort of load to protect the gearbox?
just so long as we see Horner and the Helmet whining after the race that they have been robbed of both Championships it will be good weekend Max deserves the title on his driving BUT not on his or Horners antics
I think it was fairly clear in quali that following any car was creating massive.ossues in the fast tunnels of death The first corner is the race imo. If hamilton walks through it then he's won this. There will be safety cars imo.but I think he can.manage the restarts If verstappen has a.penalty for.gearbox then he wont get near the two mercs. I've heard nothing on bottas either
If Max gets the jump on Bottas, and it's Hamilton v Max, then it could be a simple undercut for RBR. Max is pretty rapid off the line, so he may even come out at the front
It looks very short run to the first corner to me but we will see. I think we need to see the final grid first. Imo once first corner is over this should be race over.
I still think we have a race on our hands. Max is awesome with his starts so I see him getting past Bottas. Lewis' tyres are 4 laps older than Max's tyres so I hope Merc do not allow an undercut from Max. The second stint looking likely to be on Hards, no reason not to do a stop on lap 15 or so. Danger of an undercut is a safety car allowing an easy pit for the cars that haven't changed. The speed advantage Merc had on the previous races, that does seem to have been eroded. I do hope the championship is not settled here.
Small mercies for him. He absolutely planked his entire year there. I just cannot see anyone staying within 2 seconds of another car consistently here. The wash off cars even pulled over was evident in the twisty tunnel of death. I just cant see guys being able to keep close to a relatively similar car to use the 3 drs sections. Cant see there not being a safety car but imo that will simply not be of any use to anyone following either.
220m to the first corner I think I read, one of the shorter runs on the calendar. Red Bull need to be really sure the gearbox is ok, it needs to do two races.
I read it was due to prayers being on the hour, so they didn't want people to miss the start. No idea if that's correct or just a made up rumour.
Sounds legit, they pray 5 times a day and 2 of those are afternoon from what I remember as a kid in Tangiers. Something very relaxing and peaceful about hearing the Mullah's call to prayer.
