Exactly this, not every "near post" shot is one that a GK should definitely save, it was blasted from about 4 yards out. Macca got a little unlucky with the first as well, he never had much time to react and where the ball hit him dictated where the parry was going to go, it would've been classed as a good save had it not fallen straight to Evans IMO.
It wasnt an easy save because of his positioning. If he had covered the near post effectively it would’ve been straight at him. Definitely an error but not an absolute howler like the Norwich second goal for example
True, but if he was positioned a bit more to the post, then maybe Maddison would have seen a larger gap to the other side and gone for that? We'll never know. One of those that if he stops it "good stop but he should have anyway as it is near post" and if it goes to his left "oh his positioning was awful as he left too much goal to aim at". Lose lose really for McCarthy. FWIW though I think that Kasper's parry on our first goal was a comedy of errors from his part - first an unconvincing parry (though he saw it late) into a dangerous area, then a lovely pass with his leg to Bedders
Like SA said, Maddison was only a yard or so away, and he absolutely blasted it, and along the ground. On top of that, his momentum and body shape very much made it look like he was opening up to aim at the far post. And, you had both Bednarek and someone else blocking his view with last minute lunges. No way was Macca at fault imo. The other goal yes, he maybe should have held onto it, but once again there was a sea of bodies in front of him. We shouldn't have even conceded the corner in the first place though, but Bednarek's feet seemed to get a bit stuck beneath him, and instead of clearing out for a throw in, he sliced it behind for a corner.
Obvs refs can have good and bad games but how did he manage to have a bad game where every mistake he made went against us and none of them went for us? The one where Oriel was kicked in the shins right in front of him and he waved play on was a high point With a decent ref we can beat Brighton
Hope the fan is okay that had the medical emergency. Was about 5 rows in front of me. Started quite early into half time and was going on throughout Adkins interview and obviously ended up delaying the game by 15 mins. On a side note was fantastic to see and hear from Adkins again back at St.Marys and delighted he got the reception he deserves! On the game, the ref was utter ****. There were so many 50/50s or soft fouls that he would only give against us not for. Leicester were far more deliberate and cynical with their fouls but you wouldn’t know it based on the refs decisions. Strange game because think we were the better team for most of the game, more decidedly so in the first half. Leicester just had the period around their 2nd when they were clearly on top, but we also handed them multiple good chances to score a winner with awful decisions/defending/mistakes, so we’re probably lucky that we didn’t lose as they should have scored at least one of those. I also think Leicester were there for the taking today, but our shooting, decision making, touch and passing in the final third was far too often ****. Real mixed bag of a performance, overall a point against Leicester is okay, but could really do with beating Brighton which won’t be easy. They’re pretty good defensively. It’s got 0-0 written all over that one, though hope I’m wrong and we get back to winning ways.
Well firstly, I take the view that there's a certain reality we need to be facing and that is, unless a fairy godmother flies in with a very rich owner alongside, the squad we have is probably the best we can do, and let's face it we know that they are capable of being pretty good on some occasions. Secondly I have relatives and friends like many others, on this board no doubt, that support teams across all the divisions and turn up with 100+ plus supporters for matches, knowing that whilst they would like to play in the PL it will never happen for them, so even on the basis that of the 92 clubs in the top four leagues, we are currently at 16th, that for a city of our size is a decent place to be. Now like you I absolutely would wish we were in the top half of the PL, but with the recent turmoils and still restrained resources, at least I can look friends in the eye, who support Championship or lower clubs and feel proud that despite some of their teams having larger populations than ours, we are where we are and hopefully, will be in better shape as the season progresses. I don't happen to think that is a massively sad outlook to be honest.
Do enjoy Tella passing the ball into space and running onto it. Something not a lot of our players are capable of and gives us a completely different option from the like of Djenepo, Redmond and Ely who like to run with the ball at their feet. Very effective against teams with a high line. Shout out to Broja. Every time it looks like a player has tackled him, they come together and he then somehow glitches and runs through them with the ball. Great to watch.
Seemed wooden to me. I honestly think he's had some PR/ interview training and told not to be such a massive bell-end all the time!
Tella started well yesterday. Managed to create space for himself a few times by beating his man and getting to the by line. Although he went very quiet as the game went on, perhaps not got the stamina to keep up his high energy game for much longer than 60 mins.
Remembered the match at 5, forgot it until 11, so was spared the anguish of failing to hold onto a lead...yet again. My attitude was therefore....thank God we didn’t lose. Not losing implies you may win sometime....if you are of an optimistic bent....sooner, rather than later, please.
