Sorry but that last sentence is plainly hyperbolic. Levy knows more about business than me, just like I know more about working with children and mental health than he does. But that is one leap to say he knows more about football than anyone on here does. If he knows more about football than us why did he employ Hoddle (a horrific man manager), or put pleat in charge as a care taker manager for A WHOLE SEASON, or employ AVB (who was struggling with a Chelsea team who went on to win the FA Cup and CL in the 2 months after he was sacked) , or Mourinho (who was a car crash at united)? I (along with plenty of others) called him out on these as were obvious mistakes from day one. Levy has done plenty well but that does not make him immune from critics and claiming he knows more about football than us implies otherwise.
I think three signings are a must - CB, CM and a backup ST. A second CB would be great but it isn't a necessity in my opinion as Davies and Dier can "do a job" for the time being and if a second CB eats too much into the budget that potentially costs us a CM or a ST I wouldn't want that. I'd say CM is the most pivotal one we need to get right, none of our midfielders can control the middle of the pitch and it'll be the death of us if we don't sort it. I'd also like a RW but not sure it's on the agenda just yet, probably a summer thing.
Re Dele. He might run a lot but that does not make him a hard working team member. He is like plenty of people I have worked with who look busy but do nothing. I am amazed that anyone thinks he offers anything to the team other than misplaced passes, weak tackles, runs into places where a player can not pass to him. He is a shadow of the player he was from 2015-2019. He puts more time and effort into improve his visibility on social media than improving as a footballer.
Pleat being installed as medium term caretaker actually made sense: he wanted Arnesen as DoF but Arnesen wouldn't be available until the end of the season, so it was better to keep a medium term caretaker than bring in a fulltime manager then bring in a DoF in case Manager X and Arnesen had completely different philosophies which, given Hoddle was sacked a month or so into the season, was a real possibility The problem was then falling into the Big Name™ trap and jumping for Santini when he became available the following summer when Arnesen was putting Martin Jol's name forward - which begs the question if Levy was jumping for a higher-profile name (as certifiable as the owner of that name was...) as a misplaced statement of intent which is where Ramos fits in very snugly, or to overcompensate for having Pleat carry the can for way longer than any caretaker manager not named Solskjaer should be which ultimately Nuno looks like being
Depends what you mean by knows more about football, I suppose. As I've said before the best comparators for successful chairmen are Villa and Everton, both of whom had similar potential to us when ENIC took over but have achieved precisely nothing for 20 years. Everyone makes mistakes. We don't get to have someone who has all Levy's strengths and fewer weaknesses. We are much more likely to get someone with the abilities of the other PL chairmen who, with the exception of the two with unlimited funds have generally achieved less. Levy clearly knows how to run a football club which seems to me to be proof that he knows about football.
This is the odd thing about FSG: while they're not "rich" by most Premier League owners' standards as they're worth "only" $2.8bn, they have a lot of liquidity from the Red Sox, Fenway Park, their cable channel and their management business so, even though they're worth half of what Palace's owners are or a third of what Villa's owners are, they have a regular cash flow going in while Palace and Villa are owned by investment companies which mainly exist to give me an excuse to post that scene from The Big Short No, not the one of Margot Robbie in a bath analysing sub-prime MSBs
Im hoping the budget is big enough for 4 decent signings, the days of penny pinching must be over for ENIC. Obviously I don’t expect Spurs to be able to spend like City, Chelsea, Utd etc but I don’t want to see anymore cheap options signed (Rodon instead of Skriniar). Give the manager the players they want for a change.
I love how you credit Levy with everything good about Spurs but absolve him when it comes to the bad stuff and go back to how it could be worse etc. Mr Levy is such a genius that he appoints multiple managers and then spends more than anyone else on compensation when it comes to sacking them after he doesn’t back them or hired the wrong ones in the first place.
You have had two managers recently that virtually begged for new players (one got you to a CL final), now you have a third manager that has said (in my words) this squad is not what i thought and needs improvement. Levy's answer to this? (again in my words) "i have spent £400M recently on this squad, you are supposed to be good so coach them". Not a good start.
If Conte walks then Levy will have to follow. The club has to change approach and work differently to how it has in recent years.
They have a manager that believes in him and in Veratti, a player that can play that Eriksen role that gets the best out of him. At Spurs he has none of those things anymore.
Yeah I’d say pound for pound, Pool’s owners are the best in the league. Made some brilliant decisions which has paid off and some, the hiring and promotion of Edwards and the hiring of Klopp have been masterstrokes, they’ve helped Pool to huge success and done so by playing some great football too. Think Leicester’s owners have also done extremely well. Prem, FA Cup and successive seasons in Europa all in the last 6 years is brilliant for a club of their stature, I’d kill for that at Spurs.
Levy has achieved nothing at Spurs other than to increase the value of ENIC`s investment several times, he is a businessman with extremely limited football knowledge. The bloke has dragged the name of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (yes there is still a football team in N17) through the mud in recent times and delivered just 1 paltry League Cup in 20 years. He has made farcical football decision after farcical football decision, this is the bloke that sacked a trophy laden manager on the eve of a cup final, for fear of having to pay out a higher pay off should he have won the cup, that tells us all where Levy`s priorities are. ENIC are an investment company here to maximize their investment, they do not give a shiete about silverware, just European qualification and seeing a stadium full of consumers being mugged into paying the highest prices in world football.
The thing that drives me mad about him, when he loses the ball he runs after the player for 4 or 5 paces then just gives up , if I can spot this what are the coaches doing
Probably weren't paying attention about how FSG have robbed people of their houses to expand Anfield...
