This is the way it's going to be now. We'll have to get used to regarding Coronavirus as a sort of extra-nasty Flu that reinvents itself all the time. Every now and then new variants will require tweaked vaccines. I think in order to avoid permanent crisis in our NHS new laws will have to come into force, heavily discriminating against anyone who refuses to be vaccinated. Their lives must be restricted so much that they'll be virtually forced to get their jabs. That goes against my instincts regarding freedoms and civil liberties, but the situation is now permanently very grave. We MUST relieve the pressure on our healthcare workers. Perhaps COVID19 will be of benefit in a strange way, in the longer term. If it helps to create a very strong and fast reacting Global vaccination network, just that in itself might save us should another pandemic begin - involving a virus with a much higher mortality rate. 1 to 3% is bad enough. If a virus comes along with a 10% or 20% mortality rate, it will probably mean the end of Human civilisation - unless we crack it very quickly. We need to be geared up to combat new pandemics now, for ever. Happy times
I was in Brighton yesterday and saw a demo by the anti-vaxxers. And so few people are wearing masks now that I can't see them wanting to change, although it would help if our Prime Minister wore one now and then, especially in a hospital. But the government is right to act quickly, and complacency is our enemy in the fight against this clever little virus. The symptoms of the new variant are mild so far, which is a particularly crafty move by the virus, because if it doesn't kill you that means it survives.
Yes, the absolute key question will be is Omicron going to be mild in unvaccinated people, and very vulnerable groups. If we are lucky this time around the mortality rate for Omicron might be much lower than earlier variants. Yet still dominant enough to maybe drive earlier variants almost out of the reckoning. Corona will have effectively mutated into something relatively harmless. Perhaps even less dangerous than the Flu. I'm just being optimistic. The eggheads will give us the news in a few weeks I expect.
I think your use of the term ‘eggheads’ is discriminatory and derogatory and I am appalled and offended by it. I believe the fault lies with Boris Johnson as he has failed to make it clear that this term is NOT ACCEPTABLE and I believe he once even used the term himself, thus forcing others to follow his example as he is the Prime Minister.
Yes, we love it there, but we have awful problems parking the Bentley in those narrow slots in the car park. Sometimes when we’re unable to park across two adjoining bays, thus blocking them both, we’ve had to make the chauffeur drive around all day until we’ve finished.
Most shops in Brighton had signs outside telling customers they had to wear masks, and nearly everyone, including staff, was ignoring the signs. There seems to be a sort of public mood that it's all over. If you're fully jabbed up you're safe and if you're not it's because you think you don't need it. Meanwhile first-hand accounts from NHS staff tell a different story.
Yes. We'll probably be asked to clap for the HNS staff again at some point. Don't think I'll be doing that. The way they've been treated, it will be more like an insult.
I’ll give it a go and let you know if I grow another head or start shrinking and asking for concessions
Those who come up with the infringement of civil liberties stuff should try living in the DCR, or China or North Korea.
Surprise surprise, my bus pulls up this morning and before I even board it I can see one ignorant a***hole without a mask. The same ignorant a***hole who has not worn one every time I have seen the prick since I came back to work last October. People like this deserve a dose of Covid.
These brainless muppets don't need much excuse to please themselves. Sadly, our bumbling fool of a Prime Minister doesn't help, when he often appears to forget his mask in situations when he is supposed to be setting an example (never mind actually obeying rules) by wearing one. Boris gives the blatant impression that he's not really bothered when it comes to keeping other people safe. A disgraceful attitude, considering he was very seriously ill with COVID19 himself. He pays lip service to the doctors and nurses who saved his life, but his behaviour says he doesn't really give a toss about them. Muppets see, muppets do.
Piers Corbyn, who is allegedly a grown man, was filmed yesterday on a train with a few collaborators singing "Wearing a mask is like trying to keep a fart in your trousers ".
Any type of filter against this virus is a good thing - it’s a pity that twat hasn’t got an adequate filter to control the ****e that comes out of his mouth
Jesus! Darwin must be rolling in his grave looking at that. Does Piers think the phrase runs 'survival of the stupidest?'
Piers is actually a meteorologist, and was Boris's advisor when he was Mayor of London. The same Piers who broke into Brother Jeremy's fringe meeting at the Labour Party conference shouting "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS CLIMATE CHANGE!"
I don't know of many people named Piers, but they do seem a strange bunch; Piers Corbyn Piers Morgan Piers Fletcher-Dervish (The New Stateman ) a funny show in its day. I did fancy Alan B'Stard's naughty wife (played by Marsha Fitzalan)
Same as the only person this morning that wasn’t wearing a mask in my local Co Op. She proceeded to buy two rolls of Xmas wrapping paper then went outside to her car, which was parked on double yellows outside the front of the shop, across a dropped kerb for partially sighted people and drove off without a care in the world. Some people are just naturally thick (as was her waistline) and are beyond logical conversation. Euthanasia is the only answer I’m afraid.
It's their self-righteousness that gets me, same as the ones in the anti-vaxx demo in Brighton on Saturday. They rage against being told what to do by the govenment, see themselves as heroic underdogs.
