What is going on here - no going all conspiracy theorist here but Christian Eriksen (cardiac arrest), Kun Aguero (heart arrhythmia), John Fleck the other day (undiagnosed as yet) and today Charlie Wyke have all collapsed in the last 6 months. I know it is not as uncommon as most people think but it seems to be happening a lot more regularly at present, is it to do with vaccinations, is it just becoming something that is spoken about with more openness, is it the players are being turned more in to performers than players and the physical demands that brings that's causing additional stress of the heart, are we just not very good at screening for these issues and its just a bit of a coincidence? Most importantly we have not lost any of them but are we running a risk whereby someone will not be as lucky in the near future? Scary stuff, and as a coach for youth players I'd dread to think what would happen if it happened to one of my kids. As much as I know my instinct would kick in and I'd be able to do what I could to save them but I'm not a professional medic... Previously I've had a lad go in for a slide tackle and take a knee to the temple and completely out cold for a prolonged period and that was crazy scary - you don't think about it you just get to work helping them and luckily the lad was fine in the end - very concussed though, the lad couldn't remember Christmas when he woke up and it was February - had him carted off in an ambulance when they got there eventually.
And apparently this lad last night aswell... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...-goes-clutching-chest-Real-Madrid-defeat.html
I would imagine it's always happened but we didn't hear about them all.. Social media, phones etc mean everyone knows about everything. I would also think that the increasing demands to reach today's requirements are the route cause for the increase This is why I've always argued that the players of yesterday wouldn't be upto it these days.. Nowhere near fit enough and some wouldn't have had the genetics to even live up to today's demands.
Having had 3 heart attacks myself by my early 40's its nuts and really not as uncommon as you may think, the amount of younger guys in hospital cardiology wards is scary. There's been Marines and all sorts in when I was in and they're all fitter than most footballers. Always advise my mates to carry asprin in their wallets at all times and any chest pain stick between 3 and 6 straight under your tongue to get it into the blood faster and thin it allowing the blood easier access through the blocked artery. If pain is continuing drop everything and phone ambulance.
Seeing the title I thought we were going to be discussing “diving”. Do think it’s a bit harsh to accuse these players as “diving” though GTA, definitely harsh.
Good advice mate and sorry to hear about your previous troubles, wishing you (and everyone else) good health!
I'm all good mate, it just gets controlled by pills these days, granted walking out the chemists with a carrier bag makes me look like a bit weird lol.
Something doesn't seem right, it's rather alarming. Not just players either, also been a few fans in grounds.
Players are being pushed to their limits, they are linked up to all these performance machines With football owners wanting their pound of flesh, this could be too much for some
.....Or it could just be that we all don't eat as healthily as we did back in the 60's and 70's with all the packaged foods we buy in supermarkets etc. **** it I like collecting Stents
I think the Wyke 1 is different, he collapsed into a fit of laughter after hearing his former side couldn't hang on against 10 man Shrewsbury
I’m always struck by how rarely I hear “woman” and “heart attack” in the same sentence. It seems such a manly way to have your legs kicked out from under you, or worse. @magdad - horrific but optimistic history there for us
Covid infection is linked to subsequent heart trouble. Exact relationship is unclear, but given a large proportion of the population have had infections, and young footballers were among the last to be offered vaccines, there could be a link (assuming the observation of increased heart related incidents is a real effect). https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/covid-19-and-the-heart-what-have-we-learned-2021010621603 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33092737/
