I don’t often change my mind once an opinion is made as I require strong evidence to alter a view carefully reached after time and due consideration. Joelinton’s performance today was the best I have seen from him and notwithstanding Max’s contribution today and notwithstanding the slip in the box Joe was MOTM and easily so. If he continues to perform at this level then he will be a good PL player and a very good member of the team. My opinion of him changed significantly today for the better. Now pass that pie across.
1st half he was good 2nd half useless. What was he playing at with that chance trying to cut back inside? Big useless fool
He wasn't useless at any stage. Just eat your humble pie You couldn't see the ability in a player when a side wasn't set up right. Maybe Fraser will prove me wrong?
I agree, better give me a slice too. I thought he was great, there was more than one slip so he could probably do with getting some new studs in his boots, I was actually frustrated with a lot of Maxi's performance, especially first half, he just doesn't look for a simple pass rather than dive into groups of 3 and 4 players at times trying to beat them all when there's a simpler pass to a team mate on offer.
I think 1st half they were worried about max, but the 1st half forced them to try and look after Joelinton and that allowed max more freedom second half. Long may that continue
I'd lost my ****ing head with the ref by the end of the first half, I get he was trying to not book players, but ****ing hell he should be booking them for persistent fouling of Maxi, there was times they were grabbing him by the waist and pulling him over and they were getting away with it. If they'd been booked when they should have been we would have won that. Darlow or no Darlow.
There was one occasion shouting for advantage to be played. The one where we were attacking down our right in the first half and the ball was partly cleared to Willock (I think) who was clattered. Moron in Black blew. Ball was in process of being crossed in and was put in the net. Not sure if Brentford stopped but we had to go back for our free kick but their defence all set up and ready for the free kick. Two other issues but with refereeing guidelines as opposed to this referee. First, Max being booked for jumping into the crowd. Why is that a bookable offence? I’m aware of all the “health and safety “ issues but really is that a real issue? Secondly, the rigid compliance with the guidelines and the lack of common sense. When Max was running through in the second half and a Brentford defender tried to simply take him out near the half way line and was subsequently booked. For me the intent and the attempt should make that kind of offence a straight red. That would stop almost the “taking one for the team” mentality which exists and would help protect players like Max.
You can't give a red card for that foul mate I think the ref was right not being too card happy. Schar got away with one or two 1st half too. This idea that litterally any foul is a yellow I don't like and you're after reds for them
If he had caught Max with that attempted tackle Max could easily have been out injured for a few weeks. There’s fouls and there’s deliberate attempts to take somebody out. This was the latter. Bear in mind I grew up watching football in the 1960’s and it was a lot more “physical “ then. I like “physical “ games but taking people out isn’t and never should be acceptable.
