There was me thinking that him scoring the breakthrough goal and being one of our best players (statistically the best today) was going to earn him a break from being knocked.
Phew... talk about a steal Shout for Hoffman...MoM first half made several saves to keep us in the game. One was a triple save. Shout for 09... MoM in what was a generally poor performance...he scored and defended stoutly. Shout for Ross...MoM, worked hard with poor support and never give up. Until the subs came on and not forgetting Neil did some useful stuff...Mcgeady and Dajaku made a difference. The rest of the players were very poor...could hardly make a pass Evans and Gooch were particularly inept, The positives are we kept a clean sheet and 09 managed to nick a goal. I reckon only the ref knows the reason for the penalty. Ref generally awful, Johnston protested too much and got a yellow. 3 points brilliant... we have played better and lost, today we played badly and won. I will take it.
Been out all day. Nothing better than after a win in reading back through this thread with hindsight.
Not sure if anyone knows them, but we walk home over the railway bridge towards the Wheatsheaf. There was a guy getting CCPR and defibrillation from ambulance crews. Hope he’s ok. Didn’t look good
I watched onTV and just saw a bunch of players who have been shorn of confidence and were frightened to make a mistake. I thought the defence were decent and O9 did well in a makeshift position. Gooch (to be fair) played in 4 different positions. Apart from 2 chances Ipswich didn't create anything of note. The referee was terrible - he missed 2 penalties; was inconsistent with his yellows and other decisions, and gave a very harsh penalty to us. We do need a midfield general. Dan Neil is some prospect. The reaction of the players at full time towards LJ showed he still has their support. We deserved to win because we scored two more than they did Hopefully the confidence will start to reappear We kept a clean sheet We still have two games in hand although Id prefer the points Newcastle are bottom of the league hahahahahahaha
Great news if true. Ambulance crew superb. onto the game then. We thoroughly deserved to win that. Thoroughly. We scored, they wasted their chances. And Hoffman made some superb saves of course. onien was excellent as was Stewart. How they didn’t get a yellow for some of their fouls baffles me. It is literally as if the rules are different for us. Not arguing our yellow cards but they committed the 3 worst fouls of the game and got no cards for any of them. Delighted with the win. Delighted with the defence.
I and for those Ipswich fans singing “Sunderland’s a ****hole, I want to go home”… at least you all got to sneak out before the end… And I worked for months in Ipswich, it’s not exactly Mecca of the south east!!!
I've got nowt against him, personally. But he's not a good footballer, mate. Don't let yourself sink to this level. In any year apart from the last 4 or 5 years, he would not have got in the team...a few year back he'd of struggled to get in the reserves. Even at this level, he does not shine. He's a tryer, but he's not very good, he deserves respect for his attitude, but not his ability. I'd never boo him, but, he's not a good player. He's just not.
That brought back sad memories - my father had a heart attack right after leaving the SoL a good few years ago one cold Saturday in January No defibrillators then - didn't make it Very glad this fellow seems to be OK
Anyone else think Flanagan was unlucky to be dropped with Doyle keeping his place? I really rate Doyle and believe he’ll play at the very top level but he’s struggled in recent weeks. It’s as if there’s a clause in his loan - must start in the league when fit.
I think he's had the run in midfield that we all wanted him to have, and it's clear now his best position is RB and he should be moved there for the foreseeable (or when we get a LB fit and in the team). Give him credit, he did play well there last season.
I honestly think he needs a rest/break from the starting 11. His passing today was woeful and nearly every ball he played went to a blue shirt. He had a few good moments, but not enough. Rest him and bring Flanagan back in.
I really rate the lad but struggling to disagree… some woeful passing from Doyle today that really could’ve cost us. Shrewsbury (A) up next, get Flanagan back in and reassess come next weekend.
I would disagree there Gatesy. He had a nervy 10 minutes in the first half - but he was covering for BW a lot. He played well in second half
Can't disagree mate, he has a really bright future ahead of him but we, and most importantly LJ, needs to remember that he's a 17 year old and he's not used to playing at this level every week. I mean, 18 months ago he will have been playing for his school team!
