brb - now it's my turn - I refrained from joining your recent criticism of JA (( mine has always been a 'constant' criticism ! ))

I have long since had the same thought about playing Chapman in an outfield role - either upfront or as a Centre back. Aaron is a big chap. He 'should' be physically strong, and those qualities are very much the focal point of a central striker or a centre-half...... - he wouldn't need to have to run ! ( apparently .) If the circumstances dictated a 'need' for Chapman to be used in either of my suggested positions, Chapman would not, at that 'critical' stage , need to have many other qualities to be quite effective ( when things get* desperate. )

    * sorry - I meant to say 'now' that we're desperate !
Perhaps we could put JA in goal ! (( not sure if I'm that desperate. ))

Don't disagree with you mate, I remember when Gazzaniga was with us, I'm sure he started out his career as a striker (before he was with us), hence why he was such a good kicker of the ball, and was never frightened of getting involved in the odd tackle outside of his area when needs must. So I certainly agree, that some players are quite adaptable in that sense. I've often said we need Oliver in defence, especially when Tucker last season was virtually left to man the sinking ship on his own.

If KD and VO depart and with half a squad available....to quote a phrase "We're doomed"..........it's gone past a joke now.

    CLUB STATEMENT:

    https://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/2021/november/club-statement-181121/

Further to recent media speculation the Club can confirm that Manager Steve Evans is contracted to Gillingham Football Club until June 30th 2022.
Whilst Stevenage F.C did make a request on Tuesday afternoon to speak with our Manager, that request was rejected.
We look forward to Steve leading the team for the remainder of his contract, and hopefully beyond.

#StevenageFC and #GillinghamFC in stalemate over future of manager Steve Evans, whom Stevenage want to appoint after the departure of Alex Revell. Gills insisting on full £130,000 compensation. Stevenage would prefer to pay rather less (or nothing at all)

A 20 goal a season (ish) striker in defence may be a waste of his talents. Who will score the goals needed to keep us up?
The loss of Graham and to maybe a lesser extent, Ogilvie have hit us hard. Coupled with the injury list the situation is dire.
I also believe that the suggestion of selling Dempsey and Tucker to free up some cash is also very short sighted.
When The chairman took over in the early days, there was enthusiasm, signings, passion, goals galore.........perhaps the chairman would like to explain why our expectations of a return to happier times are misplaced.

    Windyrog,
I envy your 'geographical' position - not just for warmer weather - but the perfect excuse not to be able to attend games..
I don't intend to upset anyone ( even Mr. Scally ), but our Chairman has failed for 26 years, to obtain financial backing ---therefore, long before Coronavirus has made that task 'impossible.'
He has some justification for the budget..... On what Gills receive, it can't buy better players - and the current squad ( and tactics ), are not good enough to win games and bring back fans- which means we can't afford better players ((( I'm getting dizzy on this merry-go-round ))).... and yet, Mr. Scally feels justified in taking his ( +27.5% ) fat consultancy fee --- even after he eventually decides to sell the Club ( as if an idiot would pay £1 to buy it ) --- I suspect he has a set of 'construction ' plans ready to be submitted for approval of many new homes.

Whatever happened to the five year plan, about 10 years ago?

We had all the new area marked for a new ground, if memory serves me well, I'm sure this was all well before the supermarkets started building and have now been long established on the lower road, docks/strand area whatever it's called, just before the tunnel - as there was some debate around catchement areas of the supermarkets. We even had sponsorship sometime after via Medway Council. Then er silence.

If you remember I laughed, and didn't want us to move, mainly because I just felt it was just a great big white elephant. Seems my feelings were justified and this was long before we'd ever heard of something called the black death coronavirus.

Yeah I was referring more to the time in between, before Oliver started coming to fruit, I think that was after the introduction of Graham after the Jan window 2021. Before that we had poor ole Jack trying to shore up a penalty area, that seriously needed some new introduction in way of decent players. I'm talking from memory here, so a possibility my timeline is wrong.

If sources in the Grey commuter town in Hertfordshire are to be believed, this saga may not be over just yet...
