Indeed their is.....the manager in my local e- cigarettes shop is a woman.....she's doing great......
Pretty strange that in 2021 the ability of women to be professional sport managers is the subject of mockery but here we are.
Strange that you think women would make better managers of men’s football teams. How many are managing NRL and Aussie Rules?
Strange that you think gender has anything to do with managerial ability. I agree, there should be more women managing in those sports too. As the womens leagues progress and more women feel encouraged to go through the relevant training programs, I have no doubt there will be plenty of brilliant women coaches who emerge once people stop viewing competency based on something as silly as gender. We did have a high profile applicant for the North Melbourne job just last year, which was taken seriously by the club and compared to other applicants: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl...s-for-north-coaching-job-20201109-p56cty.html
Andy Murray thought it was no bother having a female coach when he was top of the mens game. hopefully that has opened doors elsewhere to break some taboos.
TB in the Faroe Islands appointed their head of youth development, a woman, as interim manager because the bloke who was in charge didn't win a game all season. She took over for the last five games. She didn't win any, but the performances improved massively. They've offered her the job permanently. AFAIK they're the first team in a European top flight to put a female manager in charge. Good on them.
I don't think it matters. Like men, they need to start somewhere and prove they're up to managing at a higher level. Hope Powell applied for the Grimsby job a few seasons ago before Paul Hurst and t'other one were appointed.
Not sure why there's some perception that there's a ceiling to the level of football a woman could manage at. Some women would excel in the top flight, while some would struggle, just as McCann would struggle at Manchester City but might do a good job in League Two. The fact that women are being given a chance in those lower levels is because the money and focus is much less so clubs feel they can take the chance, that doesn't make the argument either way though.
There's plenty of women who know endless amounts about football such as Jacqui Oatley, suzi wrack, Faye carruthers etc, but I really don't get the hype around Emma Hayes. Every time I've seen her as a pundit she just talks around in circles using endless buzz words but actually says nothing of any relevance or importwnce. Is it cos she looks like a bulldog and talks like a Saff landan geeza that everyone thinks she would do well in the men's game? Pretty much think the same of the absolute drivel that comes out of Karen Carney's mouth as well. She's on a par with Danny Mills
I suppose the hype or logic around Hayes is people endlessly saying women need to prove themselves before they get a chance, and she's won as much silverware as anyone in the game. Yes with a very strong team, but she's still shown she's as capable a manager as anyone. I take your point and admit I don't know as much as those other names you've mentioned, but I suppose it goes to show there are plenty of capable women who are often overlooked for a number of positions because they're 'only' a woman. However, as I don't think we'll likely appoint a woman as our next Head Coach, it's perhaps not entirely relevant to this thread!
Just a thought, obviously the new owner will need someone to run the football club, and the likelihood is that a Director of Football might come in. Rather than having him as a coach, maybe he has Shota Arveladze in mind for this position?
To be fair I the women I mentioned are pundits/journalists not 'in the game' as such. I was more making a comparison between their football knowledge, or at least how it comes across. I don't think Hayes achievements in the women's game can be held up as a reason she knows what she's talking about tactically as it's not the same standard as the games she's analysing. How big a difference in standard is a complete other debate I suppose. I just think people like her and Carney are big confident personalities and that's what the TV producers want. On the other hand, it's all conjecture because if she's never given a chance in the men's game we will never know. She just doesn't come across as overly knowledgeable to me at all.
