Tbh I was never quite sure about motor racing, just watching it on TV it seems slow... but when I sat in a car with somebody who knew what they were doing I nearly siht myself. I do also take the pizz out of my son about 'sitting down sports' he does a bit of cycling... mind he mocks golf as a fat old man's game. F1 is not as dangerous as it used to be and they certainly earn lots of money.
Some stars make large contributions and donations to charities and they let the world know. I think that despite being massively in the spotlight, he is quite unassuming in the way he contributes. I know he does help out a number of charities financially, including GOSH etc, but (rightly) doesn't make a massive deal over it. I watched the documentary about Billy Monger a while back and was impressed with Hamilton - seemed to genuinely want to help a young man out.
Doesn't really matter what you master, as long as you master it, it's ****ing impressive. I was just being daft as it's not exactly what the Greeks had in mind when they gathered in Olympia all them years ago but they had other things on their mind, chiefly a whole lot of ****ing each other.
Also worth bearing in mind that even though he's not got the popularity of previous champions such as Schumacher, on the track he's never bent the rules or cheated in the same way that others have.
Yes Hamilton is more like Lineker, (never yellow carded), Schumacher was often close to or actual blatant cheating, which now seems to be overlooked, as with Rosberg when he won the Chamionship.
After Hamilton's performance yesterday thought I would resurrect this thread. Despite being (in my view unfairly) penalised twice and the cheat Verstappen not being penalised. Lewis won one of the races of his career. The odds are against him winning the title this year... but he us a great racer and champion nevertheless. Goat
How the car fondler didn't get a penalty for that move on lewis, I'll never know. It makes for an interesting battle. I'm neither a Hamilton or Verstappen fan but this battle has been immense. Hopefully the reg changes might jazz up the field. Think Ferrari might come good
Yeah, he seems to be allowed to get away with a lot of late. Quite sure he failed to turn into turn 4 or whatever it was forcing both Hamilton and himself off the track before Hammers eventually got past him....he seems to do that a lot but if that's how they're being "allowed" to race then should be fair game for the next race. Would have been interesting to hear the views if Hamilton hadn't manoeuvred off the track and held his ground taking them both out of the race no doubt. Pity Bottas isn't able to bring a bit more to the party like. Max is gonna have his work cut out with Hamilton and Russell on his case next season for sure. 100% one of Hamilton's best weekends in his career. Obviously don't know the facts (nor do Merc yet I don't think) about the disqualification but to finish 5th from 20th over 24 laps is ****ing phenomenal in my book, regardless of what car you've got. He was 5th (or 6th) by the end of lap 2 in the race. No doubt Red Bull will be launching some kind of protest or asking the FIA to investigate the Mercs. I've always (up to this season) found Horner to be decent enough but he's turned in to a right little whiney bitch this season....summit to do with his mrs perhaps?
The disqualification from qualifying was for a 0.2mm gap, yet Verstappen got nowt for nearly crashing the pair of them out...?
A gap which was caused by a mechanical failure by all accounts as well and only on one side of the rear wing.....which would have had more of a negative impact than a positive one in terms of the performance of the rear wing and ultimately the car on track. Maybe Max was trying to fix it for them when he was fiddling about with it in Parc Ferme. Very interesting as to why we don't yet have onboard footage from Max's car going in the Senna S when he ran them both out of road.....don't think we've seen one from Lewis' either like but his isn't the one that needs to be looked at to be fair. It'll come of course, quite why the stewards didn't have the benefit of it during the race seems very odd to me.
Was a brilliant drive by Hamilton yesterday, the red bull accusations left a bad taste, especially as they won't lodge a complaint. How the stewards decided "let them race" was a shocking decision and one that I think they will regret when people use it as an excuse
Exactly what i said earlier, if that’s how they’re allowed to race then game on! I can totally see the final race coming around with them either level on points or only a couple between them. If Hamilton can do that from 10th then give him a new ****ing engine for every one of the last 3 races. Be interesting to see if Red Bulls react and give Max a new one for the next race cos they’re gonna be down on the Mercs for the last 3 races I reckon. I can actually see them doing that….and then the Mercs will decide to do the same to Bottas and use him to play some games. I’ve been dying for a finish to the season like this for years, gonna be interesting!
Good right up about turn 4 here and every angle shots covered in piece https://the-race.com/formula-1/what-did-verstappen-onboard-reveal-and-whats-still-unclear/
I’m a massive Lewis fan and always have been. He’s a sensational driver. I agree with above seems like the powers that be are determined to aid Red Bill and Max. The Red Bill this year is a similar amount quicker than the Merc than we had in reverse last season. Lewis pissed it, Max is being ran to the wire. That’s telling. Max is brilliant but he is not Lewis, never will be, and Russell will give Max a battle after Lewis ends, well even before, next season. Folk pull at Lewis saying ‘it’s the car’ well he’s had a far slower car all year and he’s in the hunt. Eat your words and **** off. Lewis is a phenomenon and it’s a real shame that many don’t appreciate him as one of the worlds finest ever sportsman as they don’t feel his personality.
