    I have only just seen this news. He was one of an era of sports commentators that did the job so well. I have great memories of his voice on tv, particularly olympics oddly. He was one of those commentators who never spoiled the game with chatter, he just called the game. I often think the modern day commentator tries to hard to be a tv personality and it spoils it.

    He was superb, and many who followed him spoke very highly of him indeed.

    Seen that earlier. A voice from my football childhood, no doubt about, a great commentator. RIP

    I think he was the commentator for the Man City away game in the FA cup run in 1973. Loved every minute of those two games against City.....RIP sir.
