i honestly think most of our 'locals' do indeed start off full of intentions to do well for the people of the country (not tories as most get those top jobs by going to the right schools) then they start to get the freebies sent to them in a bid to sway favour, remember one MP actually made a statement about how much had 'fallen through his letterbox' since getting elected as local, mainly because there were a few places being developed and they all wanted his backing.

remember this was just a small, local appointment, i wonder what might have fallen through his letterbox if it was on a national scale...this legalised type of bribery should be stopped with both the MP and the 'sender' losing out MP loses his seat and the sender loses any chance of getting what he was after, the entire upper class and business world is completely 'back scratching' now...besides, the perks of government are ridiculous to start with.

Power corrupts. In politics, in business and even in religion. When people have it they don’t want to lose it.

To be clear I was opposed to Brexit but hoped it would turn out to be a good thing for us all.

One of the main attractions for people seemed to be the ability to secure our borders and prevent immigrants arriving.

So I'm confused to see endless boats arriving daily and 1000 illegal migrants arriving in just one day. Once they're here they never leave, none are sent back, and they're a burden on the NHS, councils, etc which spreads our resources thinner.

I'd have thought there'd have been an agreement made with the French before we left Europe ...

... but, as far as I can, the UK government is doing absolutely nothing.

Is this just endless do you think.

People aren’t travelling because the French send them. That’s just a Tory populist strategy for the opinion polls. They travel because they want a better life, because they have friends and family here and mostly because criminals paint them a picture to exploit them or take money. Migrant kids have told me. They will travel, like it or not better to control it using agreements and negotiations and work with the Europeans on tackling trafficking but this version of Tory are arrogant and have to be superior ‘world leading’. They are world leading in bullshit corruption and arrogance.

There is/was an agreement Smug. "Le Touquet Accord", we paid the French circa £12 m per year (from memory and I am probably wrong) to have our Customs and Border Force stationed in Northern France. It was renegotiated following our decision to leave the EU and around the time when the French broke up the camps in Calais.

Subsequently the "Sandhurst Agreement" was agreed and signed in 2018. We now pay the French £55 m per year but we have withheld or threatened to withhold payment because of an ongoing dispute about what to do with the intercepted boats.

So £43m a year extra to the French. Maybe they could build a hospital with all that extra cash each year <laugh>

It would be cheaper to buy every boat in Northern France and destroy them.

"Call me Dave" Cameron, Gideon Osborne and Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson all ex members of the Bullingdon club incidentally. They all know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

    HS2 FFS <doh>

The most predictable balls up since Simon Grayson.

After the cost doubled, to £80 billion, they're scrapping the Northern section so no levelling up again, what a surprise ...

... never mind, they can use the resources to make sure the Southern section is finished.

Just off to feed the whippets now ....
