I think, for one reason or another, all of those managers were the wrong appointment. I know some people don't like the things he says but, with the Speakman et al set up, Johnson is a good fit for us currently. I don't expect him to be manager when we get back to the Premier League, due to the nature of the set up, but he's the right type for where we are now. He's turned these things around before, so I'd back him to do it again.
We have all seen this before, he is a dead man walking, he can only save himself with a very quick return to form, need to start winning again very quickly.
Football managers live and die by results... We were playing well... but now are very poor ( rather now than last 15 games). When will KLD pull the trigger? Above my pay grade, but another 4 or 5 league losses and I guess he will be toast!
There's only one who'd get 30k to watch the grass grow. Your budget dwarfs the division, hence everyone's expectation.
Agree. Watched this closely last night. Our problem is not really with the ball (although I would prefer two up top) but as soon as we lose it we are a shambles. Midfield is chasing shadows doesn't know whether to press or drop back. zero shape. Likewise the defense doesn't seem to know whether to push up or drop off. Often drops off while the midfield go walk about leaving a huge gap between defense and midfield. No chance of winning the second ball. Managers tend to either want the team to drop off into a tight shape like Allardyce and Oneil as soon as the ball is lost or like Man City push up as a team and press the ball. We do neither or more worryingly both at once defense drops off and midfield pushes forward. Chaos. I really believe we have the players. Would love to see the club grasp the nettle and bring in an experienced defensive coach to work with them
Yep... hopefully our professional, players, coaches, managers are working very hard along the lines that we have indicated.
The observation about zonal marking is interesting. When it works it is so effective, but you need some very good players to do it in my opinion. A lot of coaches will go man to man in order to make it simpler for players. When they scored last night I watched Younger as he had a man in the middle then left him to mark another, only to leave him and go back to his original. I think he changed his mind for a second time because O'Nien told him too. That could well be down to zonal marking meaning you have more decisions to make. Ironically if Younger had stuck with the second man he went to mark he would probably have done a better job of stopping him scoring than O'Nien did. Younger looked like he sniffed the danger and went to it but was told otherwise. I would like to focus on stopping balls into the box. They are also coming in from near the byline now as well. That is about stopping the balls to wide players as much as it is about full backs doing a job. As a coach this sort of stuff isnt rocket science to coach. In the heat of a game players do need to stick to task though.
Good post mate. I've been saying for a while, our problems are in defence and the protection in front of the defence. Have a look at last night highlights.....the ball is outside our box and gets moved wide right.....Embleton runs to their right following the ball.....he just leaves one of their midfield players right outside our box,in the centre, completely alone. Now,I'm not having a go at Embo..I like the lad...but,it's an example of how poor we are defending. Christ,I can remember being told at about 14 years old....stop ball watching! It's ****ing fundamental!
They do but doesn't automatically extend to a manager. More the culture and philosophy of the club from top to bottom. If anything it makes it easier to make a change at managerial level.
After seeing how the club has been organised I don't believe things will be allowed to drag on. Either certain players will be allowed to go, the backroom staff changed or the manager helped/replaced. That's why I've not participated in this thread.
It might be a combination of some of those options mate. I’m not ITK for the avoidance of doubt. It’s absolutely painful to watch us at the minute which is ridiculous as we were playing some cracking football in August and September. Ipswich is a must not get battered for Johnson mind.
Somebody over the road has suggested that Gerry Taggart is in town, with a view to a position helping organise the defence. Somebody needs to.
Not sure who Gerry Taggart is, perhaps a relation to the Duke of Wellington... who was good at winning things.
There is a blast from the past. He was at Oldham before Johnson took over as coach there. Maybr they know each other from that.
As I’ve said before, I don’t understand much about the modern game, so could you please enlighten me about false 9s. What are they?
