I think it's to do with spare parts. If they replace the wing now, whatever wing they put on has to do the race, or an equivalent part can be fitted if it's damaged. If Red Bull don't have an equivalent available at the track, nurse the wing through quali and you can probably get a replacement flown out from the factory for the race. If that's not possible or they've only got one spare, then maybe you don't want to risk it getting damaged in quali?
Red Bull had the same issue in Austin and they survived the race. There's a reason I'm sure but I'm sure they're also well inside limits.
Well, the top 5 teams are all in 2 by 2. McLaren and Ferrari woke up but won’t be troubling the front 4 sadly- thought this track might bring them into play. Will Max show what’s up his sleeve here or can Lewis get close?
Talk about pulling it out of the bag when they need it! Or do red bull have rear wing issues forcing them to run lower angles?
Red Bull were much further off than expected in Turkey, were unexpectedly faster in Austin and now are unexpectedly slower here. The lesson here is to stop listening to all the prattling about which circuit suits which car.
and they won;t be using the soft tyre, which seemed to be the problem in Q3. The run down and through T1 will be interesting, as usual.
Tsunoda inadvertently making tomorrow's race more interesting (whilst also screwing up Charles' lap as well, but there we go).
Well well. I'm already nervous for lights out tomorrow. A Merc 1-2 in the final standings would really revitalise the title race which I thought was slowly becoming a Max cert.
I'm not sure on that one. He was doing quite well today, he managed to give Gasly a good tow. I think he panicked a bit as Perez was coming up and he wanted to get out of the way. He went off due to his panicking but then Perez couldn't hold his line as he was distracted - so both made mistakes. I feel Perez shouldn't have made such a mistake with his experience!!! Tsunoda looks to have the makings of a good driver I'm not sure MazaSpin is ever going to get much better.
I think that's harsh if based on Q3. He was instructed to sacrifice the chance of a final run to give Gasly a tow, and then couldn't exactly disappear off track entirely. The team put him there and he did his best to get out the way.
