Good Morning. It's Friday 5th November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Is a top six prediction realistic next season

Andrea Radrizzani has recently spoken of a top six finish as long as they can avoid the drop, come May; but where will the investment come from? Why didn't he call for these funds last Summer? Although in footballing terms, Radrizzzani's wealth is quite modest, 49ers Enterprise, Peter Lowry and even youtube would have loved to improve their stake in the West Yorkshire outfit, but it seemed Radrizzani was happy to consolidate, knowing that a repeat of their previous campaign was most unlikely.

When recently asked on the likelihood that Leeds could achieve a top six finish next season, Phil Hay was sceptical:-

"Hard to predict that at this stage because it depends on factors - is Bielsa staying, how have individuals played etc. And the budget. But yes, they will need investment as the seasons go on. It's most likely to come from 49ers Enterprises via the purchase of more shares, or that's my view anyway. But while staying up this season would be fine, to push on they will have to address aspects of the squad. No doubt about that".

The former Chief Football Writer from the YEP was then asked whether the funds to rebuild the squad would be coming from the Sales of Phillips, Raphinha and Meslier, to which Hay replied:-

    "I don't think that's a wildly inaccurate prediction".

Aston Villa have shown that throwing money at a team doesn't bring success, not that Leeds could match the spending power of the Villans ($10.4Bn net wealth). If Leeds were to sell their Crown Jewels, isn't going to be more difficult to attract the better players?

Leeds should have sent Gelhardt out on loan

Former Whites' keeper Paddy Kenny believes Leeds should have sent Joe Gelhardt out on loan to gain valuable first team experience. The news comes after it was revealed by 'The Athletic' that Leeds knocked back approaches from Preston and Stoke for the England youngster.

Whilst Gelhardt has managed the odd cameo appearance for the first team, playing week in, week out in the Championship may have readied the 19yo for top flight football come January!

According to Kenny:- “For me, you can’t beat playing games,” “He’s a 19-year-old kid. Realistically, he isn’t going to get a huge number of games for Leeds this season. “I find it strange that they wouldn’t let him go out on loan. Playing competitive football week in, week out is going to be better in the long term. “The only thing I can think of is if they are expecting someone else to come in for him in January. “Otherwise, I honestly think they might have made a big mistake this one.”

Leeds players are running the risk of injury unless they are operating at peak fitness

Leeds players are running the risk of injury unless they are operating at peak fitness, according to medicine and data analyst Ben Dinnery (also the owner of the Premier Injuries site www.premierinjuries.com). He went on to highlight the importance of aerobic training (short sprints) to the Leeds team.

“Their metrics and intensity levels mean Leeds almost have their own category,” “If you’re coming back from injury, there is ‘return to play’, ‘return to match sharpness’, and then ‘return to Bielsa play’. “I take distance covered stats with a pinch of salt. That doesn’t tell you a huge amount about a team. “It’s the number of high-intensity sprints and the distance covered in zone four and five that are really what matters.

“We know that fatigue is a major risk factor when it comes to injuries. But that’s why we see Marcelo Bielsa manage his teams really well. “He kept Kalvin Phillips on the bench after he returned to fitness from his recent setback. “You need to be on your game 100 per cent in Bielsa’s team, otherwise there is a serious risk of injury. The style of play will push you to the limit.”

Assuming we stay up and strengthen in the Summer, what happens when Bielsa leaves, and a new Manager wants his own players?

FFS what a depressing breakfast thread. Elland are you now just trying to be the new Chippy and going for clicks. I dont give a fook what Paddy Kenney thinks and never have.

Yes we can go for top 6 next season as long as we invest in the right players and still have Bielsa or a very good successor in charge. Conflating Smith at Villa and Bielsa is a joke. Better to compare us to Leicester.

Why bring up the tired old fitness and burn out question, pointless

A real story to debate today

    Further investment made.

Leeds United are pleased to confirm 49ers Enterprises have increased the stake of their minority position in Leeds United.

Aser Ventures maintains 56% ownership of the club, with 49ers Enterprises now controlling 44%.

Chief Executive Angus Kinnear said: “We are delighted to see Aser Ventures strengthen their partnership with 49ers Enterprises who have clearly been impressed by the quality of the project.

“Aser Ventures and Chairman Andrea Radrizzani remain unequivocally committed to the club, whilst all those involved with the 49ers are actively working with our management team on a daily basis to help to drive us forward, putting us in a strong position to achieve our goals in the coming years.”

Agreed Doc. Ell does a great job with the morning breakfast debates and realise it's difficult to muster up some interesting talking points every day, but lately it's regurgitating the usual negative ****e from know nothing Hay or some ex players trying to stay relevant.

There's a reason I don't subscribe to The Athletic - I'm not interested in what Phil Hay has to say. And yet he's quoted on here nearly every day.

For someone supposedly itk and close to the goings on at the club he's actually not come out with any information that hasn't already been readily available elsewhere.

Wonder how much they paid for ghe uplift in shares? I think they had around 30% and that would mean they just bought another 14% and if the club is valued at £300m not the £400m Radz mentioned earlier this week then 49ers must have paid around £42m for the new shares? Bet they didnt but interested to see how much

Hell no, we are so far from a top six place it is insane. The amount of money we need to spend to get there is not even conceivable. It will take several years with good investment before we can even get close to get into top 6. And we would have top keep our best players.

Leeds should have sent Gelhardt out on loan

Yes, he should have been sent out on loan. He needs first team senior football to progress and Bielsa is not going to give him that game time. As soon as Bamford is back he will go strait back into the team and will be a main stay for as long as he is not injured.

Leeds players are running the risk of injury unless they are operating at peak fitness

I think Ben Dinnery is right. You need to be at 100% fitness before entering a Bielsa team. If not, you are at a higher risk of getting injured again than in other teams.

    Afternoon all,

I sympathise for Ell as it is very difficult to come up with new ideas for debate on a daily basis but saying that I think all the comments so far have been correct.

    Morning all

Personally don't agree with the criticism of Ell at all. Don't think it is a closed shop doing the morning thread? Quite funny when some of the criticism comes from those who repeat things the most!

Carry on boss, you'll do for me :emoticon-0148-yes:

    Afternoon all…

Joffy out on loan, a tricky one as he already has plenty of Championship experience, ideally I’d like to have seen him used for us more than he has. I think a loan spell out in January might do him good but it depends where and to who.

Top 6 next season, not a chance even if we have £100m to spend AND hold on to Phillips and Raphinha.

If Bielsa leaves we have Orta in charge of transfers, I think the new guy will be expected to work with what he has. I think we might get some better players too, I’m convinced Bielsa has been a little blinkered in what or who he wants.

In regards to Villa they have a much better squad than us it’s just a **** manager in charge. In regards to spending wisely or not, James and Rodrigo our two most expensive signings yet they’d not make top 5 in player of the season so far and that’s a scary thought when you consider others who have zero chance through injury

Probably Nandez. De Paul, O'Brien, some baller from Spain and our Under 23's would be my guess <whistle>

Cheers Marcos, but honestly guys, the Breakfast debate changes direction upon what is posted. If someone posts something positive, there will be a reaction to that in the same way if a negative post was posted. Is some of it meant to wind the posters up - of course!!!! It's the best way to get a reaction!

Whilst we're talking about contribution to the board, it would be nice for others to get more involved. Sometimes I feel I post too much. I'm happy to give any templates out, and answer any questions you may have if you're interested in doing some Breakfast debates or Match Threads.

Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some more / fresh posters. At the bottom left hand corner there is a tweet button that will tweet the article you are on to all your followers and people that follow you.
