Yes . It's not just his fault we are in this mess but our goals conceded stat is abysmal. Gunn deserves a start imho. Start Idah too he can't do any worse
Krul, for me. Things could yet get worse and not having Krul's voice behind an already fairly bambooselled backline could make matters worse. Bah!
Minus 25 goals after 10 games , barking at the defence isn't enough. He's a quality keeper but he's made plenty of costly cock ups and nobody is bigger than the team . None of them deserve their place other than Normann
I’d add Aarons and possibly Hanley to that list. The latter has done pretty well I think he just not been helped by those beside him.
I’ve gone for Gunn purely for his distribution. I’ve lost count of the amount I’m of times I have watched Krul dally on the ball looking for a pass, see a free player mid way up our half on the byline, and then loft the ball easily 10ft over his head out for an opposition corner. We either play that possession based football and use a goalkeeper that can pass or we should just stop passing him the bloody ball.
I would suggest plundering our youth set up but they aren't doing very well either , perhaps promote Dixon Peters and play him up front. Fast track Byram ? Bring back Tod ? Hugill is hated at West Brom , not much point recalling him
I think we have to bring back Todd, fast tracking Bryram would be risky but I could see him starting in a months time. Bring back 4-2-3-1! Gunn Aarons Andy Hanley Gio Normann Gilmour Rashica Dowell Cantwell Pukki I’d be tempted to bring Tzolis in for Pukki and move Rashica up top for a bit more pace or straight swap for Idah.
Pukki scored 1 goal from open play in his last 20 something EPL games Still guaranteed his place, no other team would do that .
I agree, although not entirely his fault as supply to him has been poor. I personally think it is time to give someone else a go Rashica or Idah
He's had a few chances to set up Sargent for a tap in and missed himself, he hasn't had much service but refusing to start Idah who hasn't been scoring for Ireland either just highlights our lack of striker options and reliance on Pukki. Recruitment failings
Gunn is 26. He isn't going to become a better keeper by warming the bench, yet he is surely ear-marked to be our No.1 next season. Play him.
Krul up is not the same player we signed any more. His ability with ball at feet is very worrying, and this is passed on to the defenders. To watch the back five playing it around amongst themselves invariably leads to trouble. Time for a change I believe.
I think half the reason Krul started the season as #1, despite it being less than clear cut last season, was consideration for his Dutch national team ambitions. If I recall correctly, he was reassured by The Netherlands that playing in the Championship wouldn't count against him. If his form was good, he could still make the World Cup squad. He would have looked to leave Norwich otherwise. I think Krul therefore agreed to stay if Norwich gave him first shot as starting goalkeeper, to give him the chance to earn that World Cup trip. But it seems like Krul has lost his spot there after he chose not to attend a penalty practice session organise by the Dutch National Team during the last international break. Whatever Krul's reasoning, van Gaal has publicly said that as a result, Krul has no future in his squad. So if Krul has no route back to the Dutch team, I think any agreement with Norwich is irrelevant. His form hasn't been exceptional, and we know Gunn has played well when called upon this season, and has better footwork. I think he should at least get an opportunity.
https://theathletic.com/3679873/2022/10/12/angus-gunn-might-deserve-a-chance-for-norwich/ Michael Bailey must be hanging around here... Edit: For what it's worth, the conclusion is basically that Krul hasn't been any worse in terms of saving shots than he was in the Championship previously, and depending on what metric you look at, he's between about 6-12th best performing goalkeeper in the league. Krul isn't delivering elite goalkeeping, but he's above average and not dragging us down. Question really is whether Gunn might be capable of more.
I don't think anyones on here has concerns about his shot stopping but major ones about his ball use in possession. We frequently get played into trouble by his poor control and distribution. And opposition coaches will know about this an d try to take advantage.
Not seen much this season because the TV company I got the free trial with had no Norwich games so I cancelled it, but in previous seasons often it was fannying about at the back allowing 3,4,5 opposition players to surge forward giving Krul no options with static players in front of him and no target man to aim for
