Yesterday was a very bad day at the office, a bad indicator of our strength and organisation. However the result against Charlton was the most worrying for me .. losing at home to a bottom team in trouble.
If we go on another streak and lose touch with the top 2 then yes. It would be remiss of KLD not to do it
I mean it was McGeady who went off for the last half hour so I doubt it made much difference if any, but true enough.
Does anyone know why we give away so many free kicks. They had about 30 in our half where they could start a set play or launch one into our box yet I don’t recall us having any at all in their half. We had no corners either I think. Are we dirty and we try to chop down opposition players or is it that all these free kicks are because we are too slow or simply not good enough. It’s not just in the Rotherham game because we give away loads of free kicks in our own half in most games, each one giving the opposition a set play goal scoring chance. We often think all the Referees are crap and that they give all the calls to the opposition but if we consistently give so many free kick away then perhaps it’s not always poor refereeing and it’s our poor play. I thought Stewart played well yesterday but saw no other positives.
I don't think McGeady going off for the last half hour made much difference to our ability to defend, no.
Fallout from Tuesday's cup game continues, the tackle made on Hume has done his ankle... he is out for a couple of months. Neil is now LB back-up other than the under 23 lad...
Just a point of order - he went off on 56 mins and we played a further 38 mins without him conceding 2 goals and virtually all the possession
Refs are crap we need to wise up a bit But we are always chasing the game in midfield often chasing shadows. ONein in particular puts a shift in but doesn't read the game so ends up putting in last ditch tackles Fine when we are on the front foot with the likes of Neil going forward But we need a big rethink in midfield so we can actually start controlling games Desperate for a couple of strong midfielders who can read the game pick up the second balls Allowing teams to play and dictate the game isn't working
I would have took 2 points from the Rotherham & Sheff Wed games, win on Tuesday and it’s a good return from 2 tough games. Yesterday was a shambles and followed on from a poor Charlton defeat. Let’s get behind them and get to January and make some decent signings to push on for promotion. We have a lot of young lads on the pitch every week they need us to push them on
For some reason we seem to slow of thought. We never won one 50/50 all game, every loose ball their player got to first even if one of our players was nearer. How many freekick have we gave away this season where our player is waiting for the ball and the op player jumps in front of our man meaning he kicks man before ball.
Who do you class as central midfield in the current system, and could you name names not numbers please cos I don't know what you mean by a ten.
Well, yesterday the midfield three were O'Nien, Neil, and Embleton. Embleton played as the 10, the advanced central midfielder playing in the space behind the centre forward. The term '10' is widely used in British football now (in Italy its also called a 'trequartista' and in Argentina an 'enganche'). Its borrowed from continental clubs who would regularly play a player in that position while we were tactically in the dark ages. Although, to be fair, British clubs also had players in a similar role but we were so behind the times we could only conceive that teams lined up in a rigid 442 (and before that 235) even though, in reality, they didn't.
