Apparently GM said Tyler Smith non attendance in the squad is just a selection issue. To quote he said we have 8 strikers so 2 will always miss out. 8 bloody strikers and we can’t score. The whole place is a **** show.
Agree, other than it really wasn't 3 at the back to start with (I'd say it was suppossed to be 4 2 3 1, but of course Emmanuel likes to bomb forward, as does Elder to be fair. Whatever it was, it was an utter mess, and the players looked lost. It did change to a clear 3 at the back when Smallwood went off and McLoughlin came on, and they looked at least a bit more comfortable with it then). Anyway, main point, re. Smallwood, why on earth does he so regularly do that? He should be made to watch videos of Ashbee all this week, to see how that role should be done.
Coaching Suggestions. 1. If playing Eaves have KLP somewhere near him instead of 25 yds away . 2. Teach KLP to move towards the incoming pass so he doesn’t get caught receiving possession as often as he does - he isn’t strong enough to do this or is waiting for a foul that doesn’t come - alternatively stick his arse out like the Brazilian we had the other year who was brilliant at it. 3. Get KLP to do more rubs in the channels or at mangles to give the midfield a forward pass opportunity ! 4. Mcann doesn’t see the east stand side , Elder time after time could have pushed up the wing to almost level with their defence for through ball to the byline - he daren’t so when he got it he still had two to bypass . 4 5. Give them all a bit more freedom to overlap etc at pace they look scared to move out of a zone. 6. Play three at the back 7. Get the Doc to look up more to see other choices- maybe it’s a confidence thing? Just seen the goal back. The danger starts with Bernard storming out of position to try and tackle someone as usual while Emmanuel was already high up the wing, leaving the back four in a total mess. Greaves is pulled out to the right to cover and Smallwood tries to fill the gap in the centre but ends up playing Godden onside. Total mess. Can't wait for Jones to be fit again.
Tried to keep an eye on on formation during the game but it got too confusing. At one point it looked like 4-1-3-2 but changed when Smallwood went off. There was a lot of grumbling near us about two at the back, but that was because Elder and Emmanuel were pushing so high it just left Greaves and Bernard behind. Greaves looked much happier in the second half and did some good stuff.
Not see it yet But if true what you say then Bernard doesn’t know again when to stick or twist I do remember greaves making a tackle way over on the right Elder appeared to have two to mark. Same with Emmanuel he was always unsure whether he should be pushing high up on their wing back or been a right back! Not a bad header from Wilks. all over the place for the goal. Smallwood was too deep but elder should have held smallwoods line rather than walk out
