After probably 13-14 years of owing FM games, they have actually corrected the misspelled name of my hometown. That might be the most surprising Canada-related football development of the year.

Is the new one any good? Or just an updated version of FM21?

Probably the wrong person to ask. I didn't own 20 or 21...normally only buy once every couple years.

Also, I haven't yet gotten past the stage of setting up a save. I need to make my manager look as ridiculous as possible first. Can't rush that. Right now, I have:

But I feel like I can improve on that.

21 with frills. VAR doesn’t rule out every goal when it goes there, bit more chat with staff etc and when your players are knackered they’re more ropy.

I actually think Koeman could be a really good fit for Newcastle..

For me we were the right level for him when he was with us, and on the pitch his stint should largely be viewed as successful.

His main failing was his disinterest in using and developing the academy, something which I doubt will be seen as so important at Newcastle given they're planning ot buy their way to success anyway

like most managers Koeman has failed at some places and done well at others. It is really hard to say whether a manager will be a success at any club. Koemans record before joining Saints was very ordinary at best, he built his reputation up here then hasn’t done particularly well since he left.

Hmm yeah I won’t get it until the editor is out and I can remove the Brexit rules for the PL anyway. Hate having restrictions on who you can/can’t sign

Seen there is some new Data Hub tab which I’ll probably look at once then never bother with again

Hmm...not sure WARCHEST1 would agree with regard to giving him a bunch of cash. It's the sort of mad **** that WARCHEST3 would do, mind you.

He's an Autocrat. His way or no way and that's an awful fit for Barca which is a club with commitment to the culture and not to a singular leader. Here, he got lucky in that Mauricio had done a lot of the groundwork and Koeman was out once he had undone a lot of that culture building.

Yeah, I'm just messing about at the moment. No point in starting a proper save until the quality-of-life mods are available. I don't mind some restrictions on signings, but the FM work permit rules are far more punitive than they are in reality: you'd have almost certainly failed getting a WP for Perraud in-game, but it was a formality when Saints actually signed him. The pre-Brexit system was fine.

It's definitely far more information-dense than 19 was. For me, at least, getting the option to flail my arms wildly while telling Shane Long that he needs to find a new team is certainly an interesting addition, albeit one that adds the temptation to completely undermine my save by wandering the training ground, shouting nonsense and writhing like one of those inflatable wacky tube men.

I'm also disappointed to learn that the board will now block you from selling players for less than what they are worth. It'll really make my occasional attempts to bankrupt Man City that much more difficult. And having Gao refuse to allow me to sell Alien Lucy because he thought we could get 750k more, only for the next offers to be 2m less, was a bit of a nuisance.

Not sure that’s entirely fair on him re Saints, when he came in we had half a brand new first team, can’t really give Pochettino all the credit for that.

I felt Pochettino had the better ‘philosophy’ and plan A, but Koeman was more pragmatic and tactically flexible.

    As for everything else:

Everyone fails at Everton (he had a very good first season there as well which is largely forgotten).

He did a good job with the Netherlands.

Barca is a ****show, not sure we will really know if he has failed there or not until we see how Xavi does.

He does have a penchant for taking charge of teams in crisis.

I was making comment on what he inherited compared to what he left behind. The squad he left and the one he had while here dont even compare. His tenure saw decent league results but left the club in a mess from first team right thru the academy. I'm not arguing that everything was on Koeman but he did nothing to build a culture or a future and everything to win a few first team games for his own enrichment. Great at the time and great for getting to the biggest job in football but the best managers, for us, Poch and now Ralph are about building a culture and philosophy throughout the club.

He's our most successful in the past 30/40 years. Back to back European qualification was almost unthinkable for us in PL era.

I also disagree about the squad he left behind. It was fine until the board sold off Mane, Pelle, and Virgil.

Saying he left the club in a mess from top to bottom is unfair and revisionist nonsense imo.

Agree to disagree but the aftermath of his tenure cant be considered exempt from his influence.

For me the biggest contributor to our aftermath is Les getting cocky and thinking our recruitment was always going to be 100%.

We were always going to suffer a downturn after our best league finish since the 80s, especially as we sold our top two scorers and replaced them with Redmond.

Agree to disagree though like you say.
