Fee agreed for Hull City takeover though hurdles remain for Acun Ilicali

The sale of the east Yorkshire club appears to be edging closer

A deal to buy Hull City has been agreed in principle between owner Assem Allam and Turkish media mogul Acun ilicali.

In what’s a major step forward in seeing the Allam’s ownership end, it’s understood that Ilicali and his backers will pay £30m for the Championship strugglers in staggered payments, with another £20m assured should City regain their place in the Premier League within a certain time frame.

An agreement has been struck in principle, Hull Live understands, but due diligence has yet to take place meaning the deal remains some way off before it can be considered completed and see the Allam family bring an end to their acrimonious relationship with supporters.

There also remains various clauses to be ironed out and the full terms of the deal are still being discussed.

There remains a willingness from Assem Allam to finally complete a deal for the club he put up for sale in 2014, though after a number of failed deals in the past seven years, there are reasons to be cautious about this deal being completed.

Ilicali is understood to not be the only interested party in buying the east Yorkshire club, who currently sit third bottom in the Championship having won promotion last season from League One, but he remains the closest at this stage to making a deal happen.

Suggestions that any deal is imminent, it's believed, are wide of the mark at this stage.

Meanwhile, sources have told Hull Live that there has been no contact made with Hull City council over the potential ownership of the Stadium Management Company (SMC).

The SMC is the group responsible for the smooth-running of the MKM Stadium, and with the local authority owning the stadium, it has the power to run a fit and proper person test on a potential new leaseholder given it’s a significant public asset.

Ilicali has so far been bullish in the Turkish media about his desire to buy the club, revealing just last month his intentions.

“I’m thinking of buying Hull City in England," he explained.

“The other side trusts us. If God permits, my dream will come true. I want to fly the flag of our country in England with the success of Hull City.”

I think the council/SMC thing is a red herring, I don't think there's anything the council could realistically do about the SMC being sold and they wouldn't want to do anything anyway, I suspect they're as keen to see the back of the Allams as we are.

Why wouldn’t the Consortium consist of the owner of Fenerbahce SK (correct spelling) Arun llicali was with the owner of PSG in Paris on the 28th September for a Champion Leagues Game against Man City. Links like that can’t be bad for loan moves in the future. I am sure the proposed Consortium consists of more than Turkish Nationals. In fact I’m told that’s the case.
Just hope that everything goes ahead and the club can get back to more stability, with new owners who care.

The Allam part was not speculative, it was straight from the horses mouth.

It's starting to sound like a strong consortium, why would they continue with this old ruse that there is always another mysterious stalking horse bidder to add pressure, they've done this for 7 years and the fake bid has never materialised in to anything?

The Hull Live report above certainly suggests this isn't as far advanced as we might have hoped, in that it suggests due diligence ' has yet to take place' whereas there had been suggestions on here that it was already ongoing. Any of those who are more ITK got a view on this?

I wouldn't read to much into Hull lives article today, it's just yet another rehash of what's been said online over the last few days. If they had the sources like they claim In the article then they wouldn't just be re posting stuff all the time and would use actual quotes etc... They get most their stuff from things posted online and putting 2 + 2 together and coming up with a rehash article.

It's unfortunate that they have to do it because of the zero access they have ATM but they also have space to fill so have to post something to generate clicks and revenue

Very much a side issue, but Acun Ilicali is a nightmare of a name to pronounce. As I understand it, a C in Turkish is pronounced like a J, and it seems all of the I characters in his surname are actually that funny Turkish 'dotless I' character which, if I'm reading Wikipedia correctly, is pronounced like a U.

So it's pronounced Ajun Ulujalu, maybe?
