Opportunity to move on and continue to improve our setup
Any idea of any plans for a replacement or replacements

It's a good move for him, wouldn't have been around much longer to be honest.

Whats the story then? He was angling for a move/club were wanting to replace?

Why don't you think he will be a particular loss?

I'm asking these questions, as its difficult to gain an insight into his work. We have been poor at youth level with him, now we are better. Difficult to know how much influence he had on either. He will have a lot of youth contacts which may negatively impact us, you would think.

I think the new owners have handled things really well so far
No knee jerk reactions but have a plan for the structure of the club
Given the emphasis on youth that must include U23 coaching
I thought he might have gone earlier but probably a good decision
giving the young lads a bit of stability while they started restructuring things.

Will be very interesting to see how they replace him

Runny Gill said they have "Raided" us...... for one coach that was probably out the door anyway. As for "Raided", that's what we have done to Birmingham.

Yes, he will, but will he have more contacts than his brother, who is our Academy Manager?

I think in the short term, the thing to be concerned about is that he has pre-existing relationships with all of our players that are on the verge of being first team-ready.

They'll be back for Lee Johnson if they can't get a manager to go there <laugh>

I'd be tempted to agree with you on that score.. they will try to disrupt the talent but once the young'un see all these so called Galacticos they are planning to recruit arriving, they must wonder how to I get into the first team.... Nah, Sunderlands the better option.

Let’s look at it in reverse.

Pretty uninspired first move from an ownership with half the worlds money.

Possibly solely designed to disrupt our progress.

Aye maybe, but I doubt we will struggle to replace him with better in reality.

Its a strange one whichever way we look at it.

Or the role he was in had sickened him over the last couple of years where Donald had sold all the talent and the offer came along to move to a Premiership club (before their takeover had materialise)?

    That doesn’t change my point.

£300billion and your first move is to take a fella from 2 leagues below from a club that has largely failed to get players over the line and get them ready for first team or for sale.

I’ve no issue with the fella. I doubt it will damage us.

As I said in my initial post, he’s done a good job but he’s hardly made us Ajax the second. Whoever comes in will be of a decent standard and have a much better set of circumstances.

The deal was apparently agreed before the 300m deal so has nothing to do with the new owners

I just wonder how much of it was actually his decision to leave, we have had a complete overhaul to the set up to the club, Speakman maybes didn't fancy him but gave him the time to find a move before being shown the door.
    We will never know
