One that takes my eye in the 2.15 Nottingham is certainly a horse for course. Although Raasel is clear fav here at 15/8 I think he can be taken on here with the horse he beat last time out. My selection WRENTHORPE was only beaten 1/2 length last time by Raasel but is 2lb better off today. Take that into account but course form reads 211121 and his odds are currently 17/2. Also I think being drawn high 13/14 is another good factor. Like my bet yesterday in the place market which won you can have WRENTHORPE first 5 places and get 11/10.
Nottingham 3.55 Sobriquet Back to a workable mark and up in trip could unlock some improvement. Good amateur booked with Patrick Millman.
Morning, team. Has anyone seen the lineage on that German horse set to make his Bumper bow at Ascot on Saturday??? By Galileo and a half-brother to a multiple Group 1 winner. Has to be one of the best bred horses ever to be entered in a Bumper, methinks. Have a look if you get a spare min,
Here we go with today's bumper preview: Taunton 4.15 Taunton Racecourse Business Club Mares' Open NH Flat Race 1. Rose Above It: Consistent mare who has finished in the places on all 4 starts and won a point bumper at Exeter in April. No match for Fountains Chief next time out although that one had finished behind Rose Above It at Exeter and enjoyed a 12lbs pull in the weights. No forlorn hope back against her own sex here despite the penalty. 2. Dolly Clothespeg: Best watched after a poor debut at Warwick. 3. Fist Pumping Time: Her dam has thrown a couple of decent animals in Colour Squadron and Milan Native and also a full brother, Fire Squadron, who has a second place over hurdles for Gordon Elliott to his name. Hard to get excited about her form to date in Ireland and she is weak in the market this morning. 4. Hey Frankie: Pedigree nothing special on this debutant but there has been money for her this morning (11/1 in to 6/1). 5. One Hundred Notout: From the Fergal O'Brien yard and was sent off 2/1 fav on debut at Southwell. She was somewhat disappointing there though, finding little at the business end of the race. She has a full brother in training with Kerry Lee (Lets Getaway - currently not even a place from 6 runs and rated 75 over both hurdles and fences). She has been backed down to favouritism this morning but unless Nass tells us she is burning up the gallops I am happy to take her on. 6. Fire Lake: Ran a nice race on debut, just failing to reel in Martha Willow (who was winning under a penalty) - the value of the form can be questioned however. Milton Harris has an 11% strike rate in bumpers over the last 5 years but in his current stellar season he is 18% in bumpers (2 from 11). Was favourite this morning but has been easy to back and displaced by One Hundred Notout at the top of the market. 7. Miss West: From a yard who haven't had much joy in bumpers over the last 5 years. First foal of a mare who offered little encouragement on the track so the outlook is not great - BUT there has been e/w money for her this morning (12s into 8s). 8. The Height Of Fame: Showed very little in 2 bumpers earlier this year and best watched today. Summary: a pretty poor bumper if truth be told and not one to be getting heavily involved in. If all 8 go to post then I think one can make a case for an e/w punt on Rose Above It - yes she has a 7lb penalty to contend with but has shown a level of consistency against the geldings and I honestly can't see her out of the first 3 here. 12/1 available with many firms at the time of writing and if, as I expect, this is a pretty moderate bunch of mares then she might even be able to snatch the win.
Interesting and Andreas Wohler is certainly a very capable handler. Looks to have secured the services of Jamie Moore according to the racing press. The dam Earthly Paradise has certainly had some "hot dates" but only old boy Black Sam Bellamy has produced the goods with her thus far.
Milton Harris won it with Fire Lake who did it very nicely. Safe to say I over-estimated the point-bumper form (lesson learnt) as Rose Above It weakened very quickly. Hey Frankie was supported all day and ran a nice race in second.
Estacas has been declared to run in Royal Berkshire on Saturday (5.05 Ascot). Incidentally, I note that the old boy is still a colt. Not surprisingly though does look a very strong race.
