I have no idea what goes on in the back rooms at the Valley so I'm not going to relentlessly dig out people or defend them. I think it's fairly clear that the summer window was very hum drum - we set aup a squad for mid table and the manager couldn't get them into any sort of consistent formation. bear in mind that after a good win at Fleetwood, he left the squad unchanged and we lost pathetically at Lincoln. I would much rather that Adkins had worked out, but by the end he was clearly grasping at straws, and not very good ones at that either. But there were mistakes in the summer, and before january arrives, it would be logical to look at them and see what went wrong and correct whatever it was. Quite a few of the keyboard warriors want to sack the manager at the first defeat, replace the entire changing room on a regular basis, and see the owner sell up, despite there being no one out there asking if he wants to sell. These people would have hounded Curbishley and Gritt out before we got anywhere near the Premier - it's just ure entitlement, and suggests a complete lack of business knowege. Thwe idea that you can just cheerfully cancel contracts (with the ensuing pay offs) at will, and then have money left over to buy the sort of players these guys want to see at will is pure ignorance. And the debts it would produce would quickly sink a club like Charlton who don't even own their own stadium. The idea was supposed to be building a sustainable future, which was never likely to happen overnight. To be fair, Sandgaard made that statement about blowing the league away, and most business owners would advies against building that level of expectation, and doubly so amongst football fans who will always want the best possible signings and only realise it's a dangerous game when the club folding becomes a real possibility (see Derby, Sheffield Wed, Wigan etc to see fans who even as they edge nearer the pit still feel they have the right to an owner who spends more money than he can ever repay). In short, we may have some stuff to tidy up in the backrooms, and a knowlegable CEO is as necessary today as it was when Roland appointed Katrien to run the club for him. But the keyboard warriors Napalm approach isn't much more than a sad 'gimme gimme gimme' approach, and you don't run a business like that.
The anti-Sandgaard brigade were against him from day 1. Some of them were insulting him before his ownership was confirmed. They just like to hate anything they can't relate to.
The match thread on the Sunderland forum has degenerated into a We Wuz Robbed thread. Lee Johnson is a bitter loser, and there must be doubts over his mentality, especially if Sunderland fall away towards the end of the season, as happens too often.
Yes, they seem intent on saying Stockley headbutted their defender (which the video I've seen clearly shows he didn't) and intent on saying they should have had a penalty when the ball was blasted into Pearces face from about 2 yards away (even if it did hit his arm - which the video suggests it didn't - that is never a penalty when the player is 2 yards away from the ball which is struck fiercely at him). I did try to suggest this to some of them, but it's a Sunderland forum and it's not for me to get into arguments over there so I left it. There will always be some that can't accept the facts, and our club is no different tbh. The vast majority of Sunderland fans are good people and follow their club with passion and pride and that's the best anyone can hope for.
League One Sunderland beat Championship side QPR on penalties to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. QPR boss Mark Warburton on Austin's disallowed goal: "It's staggering to be that wrong on a major decision in a game of that importance. "Having just seen the picture I've just seen - wow! It's an appalling decision which has cost the club in all sorts of ways. "We're not talking about an inch or a marginal decision. It's feet, between Charlie being onside and offside. "With what's at stake, the financial implications for the club, big crowds home and away, everything which comes with progression to the last eight, I've never been so shocked to see a picture like that. "To be that far onside, you have to question what did they see? I hope this doesn't get me too much of a fine."
He may have a point, but it sounds like sour grapes to me. Shouldn't QPR have enough about them to tonk Sunderland in 90 minutes? Did Rangers field a weakened team? If so that's down to Warburton, not the officials.
Come off it mate, the standards of officialdom are shìte in this league. Anyways well done for holding Rotherham. We need plenty favours at the moment
If you think your refs have been bad just wait till you get Mr Oldham, although he might have learned the rules by then. WTF has gone wrong? I think it's fair to say most Charlton fans want to see you go straight up this season.
Don't know what has happened. Youngish squad and naive maybe. Like one of our posters mentioned, seems he got the tactics the wrong way around for last two matches. Seems true any team can win in this division. Please not you lot in the playoffs
I haven't, I really thought we'd cracked it this season even though the league looks stronger. Looks like there could be a lot of twists and turns, ups and downs for a few clubs . Be interesting to see where we both are come early march on the return fixture and the run in
I have got a lot of time for Sunderland fans. You could be playing in the same division as The barcodes.
