The amount spent on transfers is explained in note 11 on page 13. The figures are for players on the books at 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015 so will include some bought before Bruce's appointment. However the bulk of the spend would have been under Bruce's management. The total spend on players bought is just over £82 million. Amortisation is an accounting tool to spread the cost over the length of the contract to give a better guide to how profitable the company is or isn't.
That's completely different to what Urika said, mate. Urika said Bruce spent £80m in the season we got relegated i.e. one season. The amount spent on transfers as explained on page 13 of the 2014-15 season accounts says that £41,741,649 was spent at the time of 1st July 2014, and £40,809,473 was spent between 1st July 2014 and 30th June 2015. If you or Urika said "Bruce spent over £80 million in two seasons", that would be much closer to the truth. But Urika said he spent £80 million in one season (season we got relegated) which is just incorrect.
'At 1st July 2014' would also include the Livermore (£8m) and Snodgrass (£6m) signings, as they were signed on the 25th and 30th June 2014, respectively. From 1st July 2014 to 30th June 2015: Tom Ince - £2.3 million (compensation) Harry Maguire - £2.5 million Andy Robertson - £2.85 million Michael Dawson - £3.5 million Brian Lenihan - £200k Abel Hernández - £10 million Mohamed Diamé - £3.5 million Dame N'Doye - £3 million Est. gross transfer spend - £27,850,000 New players' wages - £12,288,480 Est. gross spend on transfer fees and wages - £40,138,480 There's margin for error of course, as some of the transfer fees listed are 'undisclosed', but the estimated figure of £40,138,480 is close to the £40,809,473 on the accounts. So between 1st July 2014 and 30th June 2015, Bruce spent around £41 million on transfers, which includes both the transfer fees and the new signings' wages. That really isn't a lot for a Premier League club at all these days, and not a figure Ehab has any right to get pissy about when the club still made a £4.2 million profit after tax.
Also, if you factor in the Shane Long and George Boyd sales and their wages, Bruce only had a net spend of £23,275,773 on both transfer fees and wages between 1st July 2014 and 30th June 2015.
Of course but you're being very cute with your timing to exclude Livermore and Snodgrass, who between them add another 15-20m in transfer fees and were still signed in the same window. Different financial year but that only matters to the accountants, not to the cash flow.
Don't blame me, that's how they've done the accounts. And £8 million + £6 million = £14 million, not £15-20 million. I have no idea what Snodgrass and Livermore were on a year, so it's hard to calculate it that way. I'm just calculating it based on the transfer fees paid between 1st July 2014 and 30th June 2015 and the £12 million increase in wages over the same period.
