NIGEL Pearson believes a transfer policy focused on young talent has inspired the dawn of a bright new era at the KC Stadium.

But with the development of his fledgling squad establishing the Tigers as promotion contenders, Pearson is braced to fend off interest from top-flight suitors.

City welcome Watford tomorrow with optimism on the rise after a run of seven games unbeaten.

The Tigers' revival has owed much to the form of several young stars, and of the 19 players called upon by Pearson this season, 11 have been aged 25 or under.

The faith of the City boss has been repaid but he says he would be "naive" to discount the threat of vultures circling.

"One thing where there's not a lot of credit is the way we've strengthened, Steve Walsh should take a lot of credit," said Pearson, praising his head of recruitment.

"We work very hard at finding young players with potential and do the right business.

"Don't get me wrong, if we had millions to spend we'd be looking in a different market.

"We shop in the market we can afford, but that's not to say that you don't look for players who have huge potential. We'll always try and do that.

"It would be naive to think that if some of our young players were doing well that there wouldn't be interest from other clubs. But if our players attract interest from other clubs it means that we're doing well."

Pearson has led a complete overhaul of the Tigers since arriving as boss in July 2010 and now looks to be enjoying the fruits of his labour.

James Chester and Jack Hobbs, City's ever-present centre-half pairing, have been among his star performers, while rookies Joe Dudgeon, Corry Evans, Tom Cairney and Robbie Brady have all found their feet this season.

City are yet to field any firm interest in their young stars, but Pearson is ready to deal with such approaches in the new year.

"If our young players develop in the way that we can and they take us to where we want to be, then that's fine," he said.

"But if something happens that I've got no control over, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

"Because of the club's situation in the last 12 to 18 months, in terms of the financial climate, there were priorities to be met.

"Although we've been able to go out and the board have been very supportive, we also know that we can't spend some of the money that other clubs have spent.

"What we've done is bring in players who have got potential and are also good performers.

"Some of them have got a lot of potential to go further. The most important thing is to get results."

City could reclaim their place in the top six with a fourth consecutive home win tomorrow, but Pearson does not want the ascent to end.

"We still have room for a lot of improvement but it's a great group to work with," he added.

"We've done okay and we're getting better but there's still a long way to go."

Well i'm hoping no one goes really the players i wouldn't mind leaving are as follows

    Harper
    Adebola
    Mcshane
    Oli

I think we have to keep all our best players and maybe bring a couple of signings in to get the Playoffs come end of the season

(Good thread by the way :)

I'd agree with you on Adebola & Harper but I think NP really refers to Prem teams stealing some of our younger players.

Well i think we have to keep our younger players without question, as whats the point of bringing them in and building a team around them if after 1 or 2 seasons your going to sell them on

Again I totally agree with you Reece but sometimes money talks from the BIG BOYS of the Premiership if the 'Price Tag' is right as Jessie J would say.

I think if anyone wants any of those players, then they'll go, I think you can add Kilbane and Simpson to that list, possibly Atkinson too.

Unless we get any daft offers, I don't think we'll lose any of the first team.

NONE OF THE KIDS. THE MIGHTY TIGERS NO LONGER NEED TO OR HAVE TO SELL FULL STOP. THE ALLAMS HAVE SAID THAT MONEY IS AVAILABLE IN JAN TO BUY SO THIS QUESTION IS DEAD IN THE WATER, IMO.

with McShane - Stewart - Dawson - Olifinjana - Garcia all due back by the end of November thats like 5 new signings.

but i do expect James Harper and maybe Jay Simpson(if Millwall want to keep him) to leave the club But as ive already posted before, if Olifinjana comes back motivated and ready to play for us then keep him.

as has already been well covered by almost everyone, the Brady and Waghorn deals (either loan extension or permanant) have to be the top priority and then One More Striker IN. the squad needs tweaking not fixing now. imo.

Then again, NP and the club couldn't really justify stopping a young player leaving, if he was given the chance of PL football.

the PL clubs that can make the daft offers would not want them anyway and as for the rest ? they will panic buy experienced players. you dont go with youth in a dog fight in the PL. from what you see/hear and read the whole squad are a collective ONE to get the Tigers back to the PL. to me the whole story is a non starter but typical of the hdm and there negative thinking.

It's not a HDM article, it's just quotes from Nigel Pearson, the HDM may have their failings, but you can't blame them for simply reporting what the manager says.

I don't think we're a selling club now. Our financial problems are behind us, we have a rich owner and AP is running the club efficiently.
NP will be the one who decides who he is willing to sell and I suspect he won't consider losing any of our good young players unless we get a ridiculously high fee that can be ploughed back into the team.

i bet its in answer to there own agenda and questions. i dont for one moment think NP would mention this if the question had not been asked.

of course clubs will be looking as NP has turned the club around almost full circle but i dont see anyone going that the club want to keep.

its about time the local rag and media in general backed the Tigers for a change instead of looking for negatives. imo.

Ironically, I've been talking to the sports editor this morning about a potential campaign if City continue to do well and he wasn't negative at all. They get a lot of stick, much of it in the past was fully deserved and they're not helped by the news desk running sport related stories that they can't control, often with a rugby bias, but they've definitely improved of late.

I actually think we'll be ok in keeping our younger players, because they are young players! I think anyone who is in a relegation in the premier league will want a more experienced player rather than someone like Chester and interest around Cairney has cooled after a quiet season last season. Brady is a good player but still appears quite naive at times and Evans and Dudgeon have done well but done nothing that would be eye catching to other clubs. The biggest worry for me is Rosenior who is a bit older, has more experience and looks every bit a premiership player. I think losing any of our players to our Championship rivals is also out of the question as i expect us to be in and around the top 6 in January so we'll be in no position to be willing to sell any of our players to a rival. Expect to see the deadwood leave but nothing else.

hope your right and they do improve more so OLM. it does not help that messrs baxter - buckingham - wood are fans for tws - sunderland and bradford. i still have the paper clips of the michael turner transfer saga. the hdm could not wait to sell turner and long before he went. you could see buckinghams grin when news came out of that move even his voice on the friday the day before the wolverhampton away game(turners last). if the hdm needs to promote the club not look for negatives. the 2011/12 season has the potential to surpass the 2007/08 season. imo.

yes he does and is. but Liam has already put that theory to bed last week. plus his nan who is from ull, would not be best pleased as she gets a free season ticket and would no doubt hit Liam with her walking stick if he left

If someone came in with £2m+ for any of our players, I'd sell them. All replaceable. You don't have to be a "selling club" to recognise that buying someone for £300,000, selling them for £2,000,000 and buying a replacement closer to the original price is good business for any club.
