    Me and my mate tried to stop using the word 'gay' as referring to something bad. Didn't work though. Suppose it's just slipped into language as being a word meaning '****ing **** mate'

    To be honest, if your gay friend did join not606 I dont see how we would even realise he was gay? Unless he outed himself - which the gen chat lot wouldnt read.

    Cant speak for everyone on the toon side but I like to think he wouldnt be treated any differently, and the gen chat lot manage to offend most straight people anyway.

    Yeah exactly. If I've had a **** week with work or something it's just a normal thing to say that means it was crap, has nothing to do with thinking gay people are bad or any nonsense like that.

    Pretty much an impossible task I think. Though this board is a far more friendly and cultured place than General Chat. Imagine starting discussions about literature, rare experimental music or how to better the place for homosexuals on General Chat?

    Also i'm not saying that saying something is gay is offensive to gay people, I was just thinking about how they'd react to certain jokes and responses on topics and stuff.

    Yup, meanings of words change, as Ricky Gervais was saying just a bit ago, after he was pulled up for using 'mong' a few too many times on twitter according to "down syndrome groups".

    I really don't take mong to mean down syndrome anymore, I'll just use it for someone who does something dopey/stupid.
