vetel is massively favoured even though Christian Horner says they are equal hmmm Webber is a cracking driver so why doesn't he get as many podiums ?

Hello Grumpy and welcome to the forum! :)
This is intended to be just a quick reply and the thrust of my argument is aimed squarely at the FIA.

DRS is difficult to get right for each circuit but in my opinion, generally over-regulated.
KERS is under-valued. It is a positive marketing tool for F1 and drivers should be allowed more use of it.

    DRS

Others have made some good observations but I think the FIA should have done their utmost to make two zones the norm rather than the exception, and some circuits could even have had three! If we're going to have DRS (and I believe it has been a success, so it should stay), more zones would have a direct effect on prolonging the battles between drivers; and with more of them, the FIA could reduce the significance of each by a small margin, to at least go some way in offsetting some of those examples where overtaking has been far too easy.

    KERS

This is a genuinely 'green' piece of technology and it (or similar) will gradually be absorbed into road-car design. In a sense, it is 'energy for nothing' - as compared with no KERS - in that it is harvesting previously wasted energy, thereby reducing fuel-consumption. For this reason, it has a real place in motor-racing and should not be thought of as a temporary gimmick for F1. However, since it's benefits should by now be obvious - and that the technology is now better understood than at its inception, making it available to the less wealthy teams - my belief is that the time is ripe to increase both the allowed maximum power and a driver's use of it.

I will refrain from answering the Button question, since such hypothetical questions lead nowhere. Suffice to say that Button is a top driver and the Red Bull is easily the best car of the past two seasons. Top driver and top car equals World Championship if not hampered by team orders: just ask Vettel (or Webber last season).

I be new as well, so hello all! :)

With regards to Button in a Red Bull it depends on a lot of factors. Obviously if you just dumped any top driver in an RB7 tomorrow to see how they compare to Vettel in reality they would all struggle, but Button especially so. He's very particular about his car and setup so it would take him longer to adjust to the car than say Alonso or Hamiliton.

If Button was involved with the development of the RB7 from the beginning I certainly think he could have put much more pressure on Vettel throughout a season than Webber. His consistency, maturity and speed over the course of a season could have potentially led to more mistakes from Vettel.

KERS is a nice idea but I'm not entirely convinced it has a huge impact over all, the drivers all tend to figure out the best place to use it throughout a lap. What I did find interesting in Korea was how Hamilton used his KERS in the race, for 2 reasons; 1) KERS was used by Hamilton to defend in the DRS zone to great effect. If Webber had a better KERS system he could have potentially nullified Hamiltons and used DRS to get a jump on him. 2)Hamilton actually listened to his engineer and did as he was told!

I like the idea of DRS but I think it could be put to better use. Why not let the drivers use it once per lap if they're within 1 second rather than assigning a zone? That way they can figure out where best to use it, where their car would get the most advantage from it and use it for a surprise attack. What I do like about it most as Brundle has said numerous times is it allows quicker drivers to get back in position, so if they do have an issue early on or in qualifying their race isn't over because they get stuck behind a slower car. So big players can get back in the game!

well, if there was only a set amount of times you could use it then it would only ever be used on the longest straight, anything else would be a waste, however making it a set amount of time means it could be used in a variety of different ways, it could be used the way it is in qualy, or saved up for the long straight, or KERS at the start of the straight with only the end of the straight DRS'd. It's a moot point thopugh, as in 2013 we'll have the return of the turbo boost, which is what they've really bought DRS in to try and emulate

I used to browse 606 a fair bit as it was a good place to spot new news stories. I never posted because of all knobs that posted crap, so figured it wasn't worth the effort.

I've been browsing here for a while now after seeing it advertised on 606 before the shut down. Seems these boards are managed a lot better so there is a lot less bitching etc, decided I'd quite like to contribute. :)

Has anybody actually joined and discussed on the F1 board here via the articles we post up on newsnow? or are we all former 606'ers?

When threads are promoted to articles thats where they go, who knows if anyone actually reads them <laugh>

I used to do that a fair bit, rarely commenting, but once I got into it I soon got to know who's comments were worth reading. I came across here quite early and unsure about what this place would be like, very glad I stayed <ok>
