... and blaming everyone but themselves.

I've been watching this story develop and tried to ignore it, but it's become hysterical and quite silly.

There's a boycott of night clubs and bars being organised, they're being blamed for the problem and all kinds of nonsense is being accepted as fact.
They're demanding, among other things, that night clubs search everyone going in.

Sorry girls but you'd be the first to start whinging if that happened and you were either searched or had to queue for an hour while that happened. You'd also complain that the cost of all these extra staff was shoved on the price of your drinks.

The answer is in your own hands ...

... don't get so drunk that you don't even see someone walking up to your drink and putting drugs in it.

Not everything is always someone else's fault.

You have brought this on yourself ladies. It's your own fault. <doh> <doh> <doh>

How about blokes stop trying to drug and rape innocent girls just trying to enjoy a night out?

This is an important topic but I'm thinking it's been used as a distraction from the covid-19 crisis...

My son is nearly 13 and I hope the world is a better place when he goes clubbing than it is now. There's is something wrong and sick with our society which we are all to blame. Prayers for those affected by this situation.

It's obviously a worrying situation and I'd like to see some action, from the government/police/councils, but the women need to take reasonable care themselves. Obviously clubs and bars have a duty of care but there's always an element of risk going into those situations.

One of the big problems is that bars, etc, are no longer full of people from your own town who can be recognised ...

... they're a sea of strangers and, sadly, you have to be a little wary.

I wonder what's being done to attack the easy production and availability of these drugs.

I think the last time I was in a club was probably a dozen years ago and after a skin full was hopeless, what's going on today is beyond my perception and more importantly Groves who just because he got down with the kids is like me clueless to what is going on in clubs today (me thinks).

Women have become victims of 'girl power' in a way.

They want to act like lads, get drunk and act the twat ...

... that's fair enough but they're vulnerable and always have been.

Rapes and sexual assaults are nothing new but women have left themselves wide open and some men will always take advantage.

Agree totally except, some should be changed to the depraved few... Still a problem though for us all. We need to stamp this behaviour, or opportunity out of our society

The news the other day wasn’t about drinks being spiked, it was a physical feeling of having a needle pushed into an arm. I’ve seen the state some get into and, to be honest, you wouldn’t need to spike them! But I’ve also worked in a bar where it turned out one of the barmen was spiking the “fitter” women. How would you get around that? He was sacked and reported for it but no idea what came of it.

If you get absolutely mortal drunk, you are putting yourself in a fragile position. I intentionally drink less. I don’t like being out of control or not remembering things.

If women want to be able to get pissed off their heads they should and they really shouldn't get raped as a result.

I put the blame firmly on those spiking drinks and not those getting spiked.

I've been passed out drunk before as a younger man.

If I'd woken up raped, I wouldn't have facepalmed and thought "****'s sake, I should have stopped at nine pints. I was asking for a good arsefucking."

The first one to get caught for doing it should get 15 years. Might make the next spiker think twice.

Women shouldn't have to be careful protecting their drinks. They should do though. But they can't cos they are pissed. No solution really. Whatever the punishment is for doing it, quadruple it.

There's something about all this that's not quite ringing true for me.

Freshers’ week always seems to result in reports like this, no surprise when it's traditionally a time for young people, often away from home for the first time, to deliberately go out with the intention of getting blind drunk.

Of course I'm not saying anyone is to blame for being attacked but some of these stories don't sound credible tbh. There's a lot of suspicion in Nottingham about this so called epidemic of needle attacks in clubs, but people are naturally reluctant to say too much, the inevitable flak isn't worth it.

This is one of the main 'incidents' that's been reported and, sorry to say it, but it's absolute nonsense.

Zara Owens, a 19-year-old university student, wrote on Instagram that after a night out at the Pryzm club in Nottingham, she woke up to a “sharp, agonising pain” in her leg and “zero recollection” of the previous evening.

“I touched the part [of my leg] where I was in the most pain and I found a pinprick. I had been spiked,” she wrote. Owens added that she had been wearing jeans and “a needle went through thick denim straight into my leg”.

So this woman has zero recollection but wakes up and knows instantly that someone injected her with a hypodermic needle through thick denim jeans. Having seen many student digs it wouldn't surprise me if it was a flea bite. But to finger this night club, after an entire night out, is ridiculous imo.

I've woken up with zero recollection, in my younger days, and had no one to blame but myself.

If anyone was caught doing that, in the clubs I worked in, they'd be praying the police rescued them.

I always think it must be very ugly men with very small dicks who resort to this despicable action. They should have the word Pervert tattooed on their forehead.

No chance I'm afraid. Its downhill all the way. Wont stop/improve until there are some serious kerbs on the handheld porn machine that kids everywhere have and use to shape their attitudes and behaviours towards women. Young men/boys generally speaking have a ****ty attitude and its much worse than when I was growing up. All of this is in front of a backdrop of respect and equality etc. which wasn't as in your face and continually highlighted by the media and educators back then either. Its a strange dichotomy really.

I also think that women need to be more responsible and accountable for their own safety and not to expect society in general to actually give a **** about any individuals wellbeing at any given time in any given situation. I hate the language being bandied about regarding "not feeling safe" blah de blah. The sooner we drum it into people that bad and evil people exist and the chance of encountering one is still relatively slim but is possible, the sooner we can educate the likely "targets" of these evil people that they themselves can reduce the chance of becoming a statistic by looking out for themselves as a priority and to take care of anyone in their group on these nights out. All too often this isn't happening and predators will predate upon the weak and vulnerable.

This isn't a way of "victim blaming" if I get in my car pissed out of my mind, fail to fasten my seatbelt and crash into a tree on the drive home, no one is going to sympathise with me and blame the pub for serving me with alcohol or the car manufacturer for not automating the fastening of the seat belt. Its all about personal risk management.

Can't agree with you there Smug. Spiking doesn't only occur when someone is paralytic. A crowded bar, with a drink on the table and someone looking the wrong way is easy prey for these arseholes

You are blaming the wrong people there mate

Top post marra, we need to re-educate our teenagers and clamp down on the social media platforms.
