Surprise....Antoni Sarcevic has quit Bolton Wanderers and joined non-league Stockpoty County.....been at loggerheads with the manager and has obviously had enough.

Tuesday nights game against Argyle was the first time he hadn't started a league game for Bolton this season....came on in the second half.

Ten years ago today the James Brent era began.....saved us at the time...but his rating with the fans slowly ebbed away....so much he failed to do over time and we're still waiting for that elusive Ice Rink he promised.....thanks for the present owner and doing all he has promised.

Saved us full stop. Averted winding up and passed the club on to someone with the desire and resources to finish the job.

I see our old friends Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini are in the news again.....charged with fraud and other offences in Switzerland.....you just can't keep top scum down can you.

We still have to be subjected to the next World Cup in the middle of a baking hot desert....and isn't it being played half way through the European League season....their fingerprints are all over that.

So here we are. It's crunch time. A third of the way through the season, games in hand have unwound and here we are, in second place on merit.

We can't go on saying it's too early to tell. We have key players still to come back and there's money in the budget for one or two more for Christmas. We have to start considering ourselves as promotion hopefuls. We don't have the biggest squad I'm sure and injuries, tiredness and suspensions may yet conspire against us. But we're showing quality and resilience right now.

People keep saying we now have this match or that match to come and the players keep going. We are going to lose a few eventually and we all know that. We may even go on a bit of a dip and we all know that is possible with Argyle. But, we are where we are on merit and nothing else. To say we have been lucky in any way is just plain daft. You cannot be lucky for 15 straight matches.

I notice that people from a long way "up North" aren't crowing so loudly now. It also puts the argument of games in hand compared to points in the bag into some perspective.

I used to read the Grauniad once upon a time: you know the adage - not Socialist at 18, no heart, not Conservative by 30, no brain. I found this

Also got a mention on the BBC News this morning, from Neil Warnock on managing his 1,600th odd league game. He remarked on how well Ryan Lowe was doing on a modest budget at his old club, Plymouth Argyle, down there in Cornwall. No Neil, it's your holiday home in Cornwall, Plymouth Argyle is in err Plymouth.

If we get past Sheffield then it's another away day to either Rochdale or Northampton. We don't get many home ties do we.
