Off Topic Covid 19 restrictions have done one

Just a sobering thought for everyone.
A 43 year old friend of my son died of Covid in Castle Hill last week. He had no underlying illnesses, however was an anti vaxxer and Covid denier, saying it was just Flu'. It isn't.

 

It is. ‘Flu kills as well.

 

I know but as far as I know, and I may be wrong, does Flu' kill healthy 40 year olds ?

It’s the ones who wear seat belts for me.

Cowering in fear because the government tells them to wear one due to “safety”. Wake up sheeple!

 

Same, but imagine being 6 feet under in a box feels even more claustrophobic. So the mask feels alright on balance.

That’s a silly comparison. The seat belt is there to mitigate a known tangible risk….speed v impact.

The mask is there to prevent spreading the disease, wearing a mask in a car on your own is plainly ridiculous - disproportionate to the risk. It’s like an adult wearing arm bands to stop drowning in a shallow bath

 

But if someone's wearing a mask in a car, presumably because they're in the habit of wearing it so much and have forgotten to take it off, why does it bother or amuse others so much? It's not causing problems for anyone else.

As SW suggests, it's disproportionate to the actual risk. Your unlikely to catch the virus in the car on your own on the M18.

Bothers and amuses were wrong...I meant saddened that people are making illogical decisions based on the information to hand.

I'm personally pro mask for its limited benefit in certain circumstances, just not the car on your own.

 

This is what I don’t get about the anti-mask brigade. Like sure if you’re a pathetic, shell of a man and can’t handle a bit of fabric/paper on your face whilst you go shopping, then cool I guess.

But why the beef with other people doing it?

 

Oh I'm all in favour of other people wearing them, I don't want their nasty exhalations. When obliged to wear one, I will, I'm just not comfortable for any stretch of time. I also question the sanity of the mask in car brigade, I wonder what their rationale is, but then again I question the sanity of 95% of the population anyway.

 

For those saying about wearing masks should be mandatory, do any of you work in an area dealing with the general public? Where people are aggressive & argumentative, I’m talking about when it was mandatory. There was also people claiming they didn’t have to wear one for medical reasons, can’t tell them they’re lying as it might be true.
Personally, the best thing is no masks.

Could be they are following the routine I've adopted:
My masks are on a hook near the front door. Intentional so that I don't forget it.
As I'm leaving the house I throw the elastics over my ears, keeping the material away from covering my mouth & nose because in the car wearing the item in its correct final orientation on my face sometimes causes my glasses to steam up. The mask stays on my ears so I don't forget it when I leave the vehicle at my destination. I therefore haven't forgotten to bring it.

Best to keep eyes on the task at hand when driving, not checking the facial fashion statements of other drivers i.m.o.

ive had a mask on in a car before simply because i have too wear them on site sometimes and if i pop out for my dinner , etc i just genuinely forgot its on my face or just out of laziness as i cant be arsed to take it off for 5 minutes then risk forgetting to put it back on when i get back to work

 

As far as I can see, you didn't. You implied some lone drivers were making illogical decisions.
I gave an example of a logical decision for having a mask partially installed in a car.

correct you can….but what’s the probability of that occurring?? Would arm bands reduce that probability?

All risks are a simple equation of severity x occurrence. The mitigation applied (mask or arm bands) need to impact one of those factors, if not it’s just done to give a false reassurance to the wearer.
