WTF is it so higher than other countries? (Sorry, can someone give me a quick summary? I haven´t been looking at UK news) If, that is the graph is for real, I assume it is apart from the hanging clown running along his line.
Afraid it is for real. Other countries have continued with vaccinations and have overtaken the UK in many cases, but have also had other mitigation measures in place that England in particular have abandoned. Since 19th July when restrictions were removed, 13,508 have died from covid.
My God. People in NZ are up in arms because the government has allowed the number of cases of people with the virus to rise to 94.
Several articles quote this figure of 13,000+ but most say this is the number of deaths from all causes greater than the average number for the same period in the years 2015-2020. Only half were directly attributed to Covid and there are other reasons, including demographics which might quite reasonably account for the others. It's still not necessary good but it's not as catastrophic as it sounds.
There are many ways that figures are presented, and this number has been taken from the government website, and doesn't appear to be the number of excess deaths. If you look at the numbers that the ONS produce later than the government figures, they are always higher, and there are several websites that measure cases differently who have higher figures than both. The government numbers have this 28 day deadline, meaning that if you survive for 29 days your demise is not counted. Not an exact system I would agree, but I think the 13,000+ is not far off the mark.
Reminds me why I stopped posting. I think differently and don't need the numbers explaining to me. Radio 4's 'More or Less' is very interesting on the subject of of what the numbers, including many government ones, should be taken to mean. I'm sure France is doing far better than the UK.
