Horrific and thoughts with his loved ones. I remember when Gabby Giffords got shot around 10 years ago in the US. Crazy to think we've had more politicians killed over here in recent years than in the US. Maybe more robust security is required for politicians but I hope it doesn't lead to more draconian laws.
That's 2 serving MP's murdered in the last 5 years. Apart from 4 killed during the height of the NI 'troubles', I can only find 3 others in the last 200 years. It's too early to start attributing motives or reasons....but....if it's politically motivated, in any way, it would be a worrying development.
The Telegraph are claiming that the man arrested is Somalian. MI5 and counterterrorism police are investigating, but that may just be due to the nature of the attack. The suspect seems to have given himself up without a struggle, so we may found out the motive soon.
“Terrorism” is a vague and ill-defined concept, but is almost certainly going to encompass this - by virtue of nationality alone. These types of incidents are almost always specific to their own, individual circumstances, but the”terrorism” label means we can all suffer from the fallout. More security, more surveillance, more suspicion of ethnic minorities, less accessibility to MPs (and ultimately less accountability for them), more handwringing about immigration, race, religion, more knee jerk reactions justifying racial and religious hatred etc etc Not a good day aside from the obvious tragedy of a pointless murder.

I appreciate that #DontBuyTheSun started as a direct result of the Liverpool slander, but surely for Hate reasons alone the Fail & the Daily Diana should also be on a block list!
