Just an fyi, in china, the whole uigher started off with a load of people getting knifed (maybe around 2012) at a train station in uigher. I remember the event although i havent really researched into what led up to that. There are also quite a few terrorist events (not religion vs people but just generally mentally unstable) whereby people just rock up to schools and stab kids. Agree though there appears to be less events (well none reported anyway) in these countries.
More than happy to be corrected on this. I don't know what the solution is at this stage to be honest.
Nah its fair enough, i don't expect everyone to read all the different sections or different sources. If it doesn't hit front page news then people arent aware. Its why i enjoy perusing this site, you very all sorts of good info from people which you can then search up on
Just something that occurred to me. surprised no-one else has thought of this. Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today, I Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one
The most telling line is "and no religion too". So many deaths in the name of religion throughout history. Maybe ban it in all schools etc. No state sponsored brain washing.
If I could Col, my like would become a . You and I have quite differing views on many things, but I am so 1000% with you on that. My only proviso is that banning things make them so attractive to certain people. I will just suggest that the single one invention that has ruined the world is religion. I wish mankind had never invented religion. I am sorry to all those on here who I have offended but it is really my heartfelt view.
As much as I'm critical of religion that is only one side of it. Stops thousands if not millions committing suicide and gives them something to live for.
No I don't but anecdotally speaking this is the case for many people and undoubtedly many people before and after my time.
Fair enough. Seems a bit of a stretch saying millions have been saved from suicide by religion. I always feel that it's possible to be charitable, kind, neighbourly, giving etc etc without the need to pray to a non existent religious power. All good things that are attributed to religion, can be achieved without religion. I do accept that it gives comfort and solice to people that believe, but I still view it as brain washing.
I know of quite a few people who killed themselves because of religion too. Gay, homosexuals, transexuals, single mothers , children abused, gay priests, fanatics who are told they are not worthy, people who have been told of the second coming. I know of people who have been killed or driven to death because if religion. I know of people whose relationships with family and lovers and friends Nas been destroyed by religion. Religion can be hugely destructive
I'm probably the most anti-religion person you could find but speaking to an ex-colleague of mine was an eye opener. His wife walked out on him and he turned to the church, said without the congregation he wouldn't be there today. Death is a hard concept to accept, I do get it's difficult for some people to come to terms with the fact we will leave this Earth and if religion can provide some support for people then fair enough.
Bobby, the train station you mentioned was Kunming in Yunnan province in the southwest of China, but away from the areas mostly populated by Uyghurs and other minorities. prior to that there was another incident in Beijing where a car was driven into people killing some. Other incidents started around 2008-9 but were mostly confined to Xinjiang province in the northwest of the country and where most Uyghurs live.
I certainly dont know the reasons why people choose to murder, but i do know that they arent obvioulsy wired up right. You could ban every religion from this land yet there will still be murders, atroocities, terrorism carried out just as regularly. Some people are simply crazy, some people are so easily influenced and some people are just purely evil.
They banned religion in the USSR, didn't they? Pretty sure nothing bad happened there...oh wait. I'm being flippant to make a point. Religion in itself isn't the issue - any man made power structure (of which religion is merely one) is open to abuse. Sadly, history has shown those power structures almost always will be abused too. Be that religion, communism, capitalism, or any other power structure. My bet is that if you could somehow take religion out of human history it would be replaced by some other power structure that would have led to similar abuses.
I don't think religion is wrong per se. There are peaceable religions. It's not often anyone hears of a Buddhist terrorist attack. Buddhists don't carry bombs into pop concerts to kill young people. They don't fly planes into tall towers. They don't bomb tube trains or buses, or attack innocent civilians with swords and knives. They don't throw gay people off high buildings or behead people with a knife on camera. They don't burn people alive in cages. There is one religion that does, and I say that without any criticism of its mostly upstanding followers.
