Surely not, surely he who knows everything and is never wrong, can't actually be wrong? Well....according to him, nope he isn't wrong!!
Yorkie, this is what you said about Bonne.... Would be different if he could find the net - but then if he did QPR would not let him go out. Absolutely no point in this signing for us and every benefit for QPR. Mind you, on the same page you said Holy was plenty good enough in goal....
He scored 1 goal in 10 for QPR, and I said it would be different if we could find the net, i.e the loan would be worthwhile, so in what language on planet Earth is that an example of being wrong? Clutching at straws there Spanish. The only way you could prove whether loans are good or bad would be to pull up stats on the number of loan signings clubs have and correlate it with their financial situation / their results / their position in the pyramid perhaps with some normalisation to rule out other factors. If you’re up to doing the analysis or researching whether it’s been done, go for it. If not, it’s all opinion. Hint: I did a quick Google, it’s all opinion pieces for both sides of the argument.
Back to the specifics of Bonne; it’s hard to find info on his likely value. Fans all seem Keen on him but I guess the problem is can we afford him because we already have Jackson who was expensive and is no doubt well remunerated, Norwood who does a bit of scoring and is no doubt we’ll remunerated and Piggot who we bought as our ‘main man’ until the Bonne loan worked out spectacularly well (as these things do from time to time…) is certainly well remunerated. and Bonne will be the most well remunerated of the lot…and then With only one position on the pitch vacant for these guys it’s quite a list on the payroll department.…The rules on expenditure to turnover also are a limiting factor…
I'd suggest we can offload Jackson with more confidence now, longer term Piggott is probably higher up Cooks thoughts than Norwood. Bonne is rightly at the top of the tree. In itself that's refreshing, previous managers would be intent on saying he's not ready/ not yet,/not the right time/ all of the above. On the conversation about loans in general. We've been on the raw end of the deal so often. Neither feeling long term benefits of signing a loan player nor getting a loan player back in better condition. But used correctly they can provide the missing link in a team that otherwise can't afford it. It should then lead to a club's own players being developed in a league more suited to them, and so on. (The debate around whether it is better to play regularly at a lower level or be around better coaches and players and facilities I'll leave separate). I think Bonne's future now depends on how many Lyndon Dykes scores between now and January.
You also said absolutely no point in the signing, only benefits QPR!!!! Oh go on, just for once admit that you were wrong.......we can't be right all of the time you know, it doesn't matter if you get things wrong occasionally!! I mean hell....i have got plenty wrong, Bigal gets his prediction wrong nearly every week and as for MrIvanCampo (remember him)....
I am wrong sometimes but in this case I’m not. His record was abysmal and I wouldn’t have signed him. I’m glad he’s here now and clearly he loves the club and we are in with a chance of signing him, but it’s a case of throwing enough mud at the wall some of it will stick. We don’t know yet whether his loan will benefit us. For that to be the case, either we have to be promoted or he has to sign permanently.
Ian Holloway seems to agree with me. He thinks Bonne will be recalled. “I would definitely be looking for another one to take on. This is the problem you have, and all I want to say is that Ipswich fans will be fuming that they’ve got to borrow someone, from Queens Park Rangers. Because they will be looking at themselves as a club the same size, if not bigger than QPR.”
Two things I’d comment on from that quote: 1)WTF is it to do with Holloway? and 2)Where does he suggest QPR will recall him?
Why on Earth do you think that? They have him contracted until 2024 if they want. If the likes of Messi and Rooney can’t force a move why do you think Bonne can?
1) As an experienced football manager more than most with an opinion on it. 2) in the interview, full transcription not provided.
I have a lot more time for Ollie’s opinion than Roy Keane, Mick McCarthy, Paul Lambert ! Or the excruciating Jamie Carragher!
Spanish I will give you those two words by all means but overall I stand by the comments. Even though he would be a dream permanent signing and even though he is scoring pretty much a goal a game still the loan could amount to no net benefit to the club in the longer term. That says everything about just how ineffective it is for us to overuse the loan market when the best case scenario still may not yield us a net benefit, never mind all the duds we spav away our funds on.
But, Hampy, none of our permanent signings since 2000 have given the club a net benefit either. (Ok, theres a handful we sold on for good money, but that was absorbed into the club's losses and we never used it for a tangible benefit) Maybe we've loaned him because we saw his record wasn't fantastic but we saw something in him worth giving a go. Thereby showing how the loan system can work well for club's and players. Bonne - Found form, scoring goals and enjoying playing. ITFC - Have a player scoring goals while the rest of the squad flounders towards some form. QPR - have a player partially off their books that they might have otherwise struggled to offload. I grant that any thing could still happen, look at Lingard and West Ham, but until at least January let's be happy we have him and trust the new owners to secure the deal in January.
