Yes the tube stations were originally shut. Yes far more could have been made of the experience of those who served in the Spanish Civil War. I could debate some of the other things but I'm broadly in agreement. Unfortunately it seems to take a world war to spark social change, and even then it takes some time. I just wish there could be more emphasis on common ground rather than people believing they are completely right and belittling those with different opinions.
Think people are belittling those politicians who lie about the war or present it as something it wasn't. There is a massive inability to discuss political issues... I think it has a lot to do with the Internet where people can say whatever they want without acknowledgement of the hurt or anger ****ty comments cause. Imho it has led to a complete lack of empathy. If people were chatting in a pub or in work instead of on the net they'd be more respectful to each other. ***obviously some people say outrageous or disgusting filth and deserve what they get back***
Just to clarify my position, I was belittling people who compared Brexit to WWII. Leaving the EU and any problems that causes is not equivalent to fighting the Nazis. It's an insulting and ludicrous comparison, intended to demonise the "other".
The latest effort from the Government to undermine the NHS is one of the most dangerous yet. Namely the see your GP in person initiative. It is completely clear that telephone triaging is much more efficient and the current situation is better in almost every way than the one existing when the pandemic struck. Total GP appointments are actually up. Spending money to try to change it back is absurd and the rhetoric is all about GPS failing and needing to be pushed into doing the right thing.
Which, of course, the Daily Wail is signal boosting as hard as their jackboots will allow That metaphor might need some work...
No, I want it to be true - because when the entire world sees the Tories hosting a conference on climate change where diesel fumes are billowing across the hall, at that point we might have some military intervention at long last
The Tories just want to break the NHS. It's one of their key goals. Many of their 'policies' and decisions are specifically designed to achieve this outcome. They all stand to make £m's and they don't give a **** if we know. Bastards!
And yet people of this country don't take to the streets - but then again, when they do like NHS staff protesting outside Downing Street last year, the BBC don't mention it as it apparently isn't important However, with the cost of chicken set to rise, expect to see a mass rising when people realise their Bargain Buckets aren't exactly bargains anymore...
