There could be plenty of space on the Arena/ Calders site, dropped SJP onto the site and I think this shows how there is space for an 80,000 capacity ground on the site. The difficulty they could have is with the City Council being sensitive of building heights in this area.

Plenty of space for St James Park at the site but if we're going to just copy the current stadium then we wouldn't be moving. My point is that all of the recently built new large stadiums are wider than the space available. Don't forget they aren't allowed to go all the way to Skinnerburn Road due to the SSSI. A stadium would fit in there, but not an all singing all dancing one. It isn't just the stadium but the space needed around it for a modern stadium.

    Good to see that superimposition.
The width is a little tight, particularly with regard to the slope down to the Tyne, but it's achievable.
The old rail line could be put back into use; ideally for train/metro but alternatively as a pedestrian walkway from Central Station.

Been having a look at this using some of my skills. For me the decision is whether or not the ground stays in the city centre, if that is the be all and end all then realistically we only have two options....we either stay where we are and look at ways to develop where the ground currently is, or we move north slightly up to nuns moor area as per my first post....this is the only realistic option as I see it, land ownership aside etc. The town moor I don't believe would be an option, maybe part of it could be but the nuns moor area seems to tick a lot of the boxes. If you look at probably the last ground in the PL to be built (Spurs), they have literally crammed it in which seems a bit ridiculous, and it is literally just their ground, their training facilities are further north and cover an area just under twice the size of the area of their ground (measurements are in meters) :-

St James Park currently by contrast looks like this :-

    upload_2021-10-12_11-47-14.png

The training ground and academy are over at Longbenton which is a fair trek from the ground but I guess looking at it could all be brought together with some expansion and purchasing of land in and around if that's possible but I still think the City Centre will be the main pull....it's one of our biggest USP's for me and what makes match days so good to attend.

The Nun's Moor Park area ticks all the boxes for me if the club were looking at developing a massive area of currently unused land and having everything all in the same place in terms of ground, academy, training complex etc etc. Right next to Newcastle United Golf Course as well :-D

At the end of the day....it's ****ing mint that we are even able to have these debates now. I'm sure these discussions have been had already with NCC and the club/PIF over the last 4 years or so and it maybe that options are already on the table with draft plans drawn up. We will know more over the coming weeks/months/years obviously.

With some clever design it could fit a much larger stadium than SJP, there are also a number of other sites close by which could be used for training grounds etc, the heliport site, all the buildings along railway street could all be linked, it would have to be part of a much larger redevelopment of the area, this would be a long term plan but if the owners want an 80,000+ stadium they have to look at other sites as SJP cannot accommodate this type of redevelopment.

We could afford to build 100, just think of all the extra club income for FFP :emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

That's the key bit. I am looking at it as a layman but there will be design possibilities beyong anything we come up with. I do hope we avoid doing what Spurs have done though and go for something with plenty of space for the crowds around the stadium and not just inside though.

I know its a bit curde but the space is there for something similar to Spurs stadium, training ground ect would have to be elsewhere but not sure where there is space elsewhere in the city centre for a bigger ground. I think anything around the Town Moor/ Nuns Moor is a non starter after the previous efforts back in the 90's. Too many wealthy influentual people live around there and would oppose the development. Nuns moor was the proposal under Sir John Hall but there was big opposition to it.
Just as a thought but do the academy and training ground need to be next to the main stadium?
Agree having a city centre stadium is almost unique and should remain but the rest make sense to be outside the city centre.

How likely is it that they would be able to move the listed buildings next to SJP?

Are you sure on the scale of that? The widest part available at the Arena site is 238 metres, narrowing to 203 metres at it's narrowest. The Spurs site is 247 at it's widest, narrowing to 227 at it's narrowest.

Technically it is posible. They have moved larger listed buildings brick by brick. We'd never get permission though. The buildings that were moved were moved to protect them from things like subsidence or eroding coastline rather than to allow development on the site.

Although it isn't part of the Town Moor, Nuns Moor is part of the common land with the same protections as the Town Moor.

Unless a listed building is at risk of falling down or is judged to be completly unusable or impossible to redevelop it will not be possible to demolish it, there is more to a listed building than the actual building, it is the impact on the setting, the wider area etc. I would suggest that there is more chance of Messi, Haarland, Fat Ronaldo, C. Ronaldo and Mbappe in the starting 11 on Saturday than being able to demolish Leazes Parade.
