Whatever Happened To?

as our team on Saturday didn't have anyone who played for us in The Premier League (except Cairney, who came on for a couple of minutes) I thought it would be interesting to look at the team that played the last Premiership game and how they have got on.

It doesn't exactly make for awe inspiring reading. Who out of these would you pick ahead of our current team?

Duke: released and with Bradford City (2nd bottom in the league)

Gardener: at Crystal Palace (free transfer). Was injured at the beginning of the season but has played the last 4 games (2 as sub).

Dawson: injured at the moment; was 1st choice up to that point

Moyoukolo: wasn't getting much of a look in at Wolves, so on loan to French League 1 team Sochaux for the season. 2 games so far.

Kilbane: on loan at Derby. played in about half their games this year

Mendy: released, without a club last year. Now a regular with Odense in Denmark (including playing in the Champions League qualifiers!)

Boateng: released. Played for Skoda Xanthi in Greece last year. Now with Nottingham Forest. Played their first 4 games, but not since the end of August due to an ankle injury.

Atkinson: on loan at Plymouth (absolute bottom of the league). 12 games 2 goals this season.

Cairney: integral part of our 1st team squad

Cullen: on loan to Bury. Alternates between the bench and the treatment table. 1 start so far.

Vennegoor of Hesselink: released at the end of the season, played last year for Rapid Vienna. currently without a club.

subs (used):

Geovanni: Played for San Jose (US MLS) and currently with Vitoria (Brazil)

Fagan: extensive injuries, released and now with Bradford.

subs (unused)

Myhill: Went to WBA on free, briefly ousted Carson but out in the cold once Woy arrived. Now on loan & 1st choice at Birmingham.

Barmby: is it cruel to call him a bit part player these days? increasingly part of the coaching staff? sporadic appearences this season.

McShane: various loans & injuries. on the bench for the last couple of games.

Olofinjana: on loan at Cardiff last season. currently injured.

Cooper: on loan at Huddersfield. Hasn't made a league start yet and has been injured.

quite right now you mention it. the website I was using the get the appearance info said "free" so I'll tell them they have it wrong.

 

Would take back Moyoukolo in a heartbeat, add some competition at cb to the squad, always thought that boy had potential, always gave it his all and 2nd half of our last season in Prem was our best player when Hunt, who strangely is not on the above list who anyone would surley have back, was out injured.

 

The above list is just those who played in the final game, but Hunt was injured as you have pointed out.

Agree about Mouyokolo, he carried an aerial threat too which we miss now. He probably wouldn't get in the team ahead of Chester and Hobbs but would be very useful competition.

Last season it was possible to pick a full squad from the injured list one week. I do think we should have Bullard back at the end of the season and sell him before the pre-season friendlies, just to have something to talk about.

 

Looking at that team it's embarrassing to think it was played in the Prem. The team we have now is better than that team in almost every department.

 

Atkinson is already our player....we don't need him back that badly that we have to pay 1.3m to cancel his loan........
