Worth saying that this is the same, garrulous Jordan that said this deal was definitely dead just a few days ago. It is true that Ashley ran it without debt or losses and that this allows very large spending this year if they choose. But if you sign a player for say, £80m that player will want maybe £10m a year, probably more just to get him to come. Do that a few times, and add on agents fees and other costs,, which will be enormous, and this, " spend what you like" window will close up faster than it opened. There is always a way of course, but the whole of football will be hostile to them now and it might be harder than they think to be creative with their accounts. They are new pariahs of football. Loathed everywhere, they will be getting favours from no one.
Pariahs is the word mate and it won't actually hit them for a while. But you only have to look at that flak we've taken over the last few seasons. And that's just for having the audacity to have arrived in this division with overpaid players like Grigg. But the Mags, and their ridiculous arrogance, will be pilloried and abused everywhere they go. It'll be funny watching them squirm, funnier still if they win nothing and squirm again. They've thrown away their right to complain ... ... they've made their bedsheets and now they'll have to lie in it.
The North East already has an owner with a moral compass (maybe 2 if you count Boro!) But it's good to see that not all mags feel comfortable with the new owners
It'll be funny if they win fook all. Where do they go from there with 52 thoosand screamin jawdees wantin them oot ? And even if they win everything it'll be hollow paid for with blood money.
If they did win (buy) the European cup , the silver lining would be hearing Citee cry about them buying it, like Chelsea did when City bought it, and ManU did when Chelsea ( well at least the title firstly)
There is literally no silver lining to Newcastle winning any cup. None IMO. @Nig i disagree totally about the hollow victory. I would happily watch SAFC but the title in the prem. not with a murderous tyrant in charge mind. They’re already insufferable and they’ve only had the club 3 days. But I also remember they were exactly like that when a certain other owner took over. And they’ve just hounded him out
What I would be worried about short term if I was a mag, would be reading all these players that are going to join in Jan/Feb but expect the s hite they have now are going to bust their guts to keep them up only to be kicked out in 3/4 months, somehow I can’t see it. Let’s hope they are past saving by then.
I realise I'm potentially setting myself up here, but my gut feeling is that this isn't going to be another Chelsea/Man City/PSG. With the changes to the Financial Fair Play rules, things will be harder for them. Added to that is the make up of the consortium. With City, Sheikh Mansour's City Group are the most visible part of the consortium. With PSG, QSI are the lead part of the consortium. In both cases the smaller shareholders are not particularly visible. In this case, it appears to be Staveley that's in the limelight. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some disappointment on Tyneside about this.
No, I'm sure the Saudis will dictate everything. Stavely is just there to terrify the onlooking press.
They'll announce a few sponsorship deals to get around that, and watch the PL have Saudi airlines or something Saudi related to ease tensions
Isn’t the HMRC investigation still rumbling on? They could release their findings tomorrow followed by the mags being relegated to League Two. Just imagine the scenes.
Dissident journalist killed and hacked to bits in one of their embassy's - I don't think they need anyone else to terrify the press!
Agreed. Others will inflate the price and Newcastle could simply pay it. In away, every other club taking the mick with inflated prices will be the cause of next level wages and fees, not Newcastle, ironic really.
Breaking News on Sky Sports.. Steven Gerrard off to Newcastle, Taking Morelos, Kent, Hagi & Jack with him. Its unclear at the minute whos stag do it is
I forgot, but I hope somebody on here is keeping a list of the players and managers that are joining in January
