Journalist to a typical Toon supporter - "But what do you think about the killing of Jamal Khashoggi?"

    Supporter - "Caz who, pet?"

I'd argue the opposite. Messi had to force his way through Ronaldinho, Deco, Henry, Eto'o and other greats of the game to establish himself.

Ronaldo has also played in world class teams with world class coaches up till recently every elite manager from Fergie, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Zidane etc whilst Messi has worked with and won with coaches we'd barely even heard of. For the first time in his career Ronaldo has had to work under non-elite coaches in Sarri and OGS and he's in battles for 4th place.

By every quantitative metric Messi is the superior player and he's better on the eye as well. We also have to consider Messi has more goals v the "big 6" than Ronaldo does despite having never played a league season in England + was the best player in two treble winning teams.

Super League is an inevitability at this stage.

All personal opinions pal, Ronaldo for me as he's done it in various countries. Can't have Messi playing for just one club although tge loyalty is admirable. Stayed in a great side and profited from playing with another 2 all time greats in Xavi and Iniesta, but declined the chance to do it in another country. Personally I don't think he had the stomach to play in England and get kicked to **** every weekend . Ronaldo also won a major tournament while Messi came up just short. Its these reasons why I still personally hold Maradona as number 1, won leagues in various countries including taking Napoli who were pony when he went there all the way to the Scudetto. Top this off with winning the Workd Cup single handedly ( excuse the pun ) and you have the reason why. Messi like Pele in my eyes, unstoppable in the 1 country they played in , but Pele's international record speaks for itself !

Oil won’t accept any Crude accusations against our friends the Saudis, Soops. They’re a Barrel of laughs, know the Drill and all is Well in their country. We’ve enjoyed a long history of friendship and Aramco-operation, despite them not having much of interest that we’d want to trade for.

Don't know about that but I am thankful for our owners (again) in the light of this news.

Had we been bought by Saudi led money, I'm afraid that would have made me think hard about my future with QPR. RTID might have become RTIQ(uit)! There are some / many things so much more important than football.

It'll be interesting to learn the new name for the stadium. A very good display of intent would be to restore St James' Park. I can't quite see that but you never know.

I think it's circumstantial. What every fan wants is a connection to their club, Newcastle fans would argue (rightly IMO) that any regime could not be worse than Mike Ashley. That's where I feel it's different to City and Chelsea - who were both more or less on the rise and the fans had a strong connection to the club.

100% agree, game of opinions but Ronaldo has always played in great sides. Barca's team has been in decline and abysmal since 2016 in all truth. Messi taking Barca to the CL SF in 18/19 was an absolute carry job and since he's left they look toothless, whereas RM have won things since Ronaldo left. Messi also won Copa America so that argument he hasn't won a international tournament is no longer valid.

In my eyes Messi is better than Ronaldo by a considerable distance - I think Maradona is better than Pele as well but not by as much. Maradona is more like Messi whereas Pele is more like Ronaldo.

    Every quantitative metric? Really?

Hasn't Ronaldo scored more goals, more international goals and more CL goals?

I'm working from memory there so happy to stand corrected. Ironically, despite the above, I much prefer Messi. Football, at its core, is about entertainment and Messi is absolutely brilliant to watch. Mesmerising. Does things that appear to defy physics. Ronaldo obviously incredible too but perhaps less mesmerising.

The Saudi Regime is infinitely worse than Mike Ashley. For a start, Ashley hasn't carried out the premeditated murder of a journalist and cut his body up with bow saws.

If I was a Newcastle Fan, I'd suspend my support for the club while under the new ownership.

Seems there are two conversations going on at the same time here. I had to read through the last page or two a few times to check that Messi and Ronaldo aren't involved in the Saudi regime. Very confused.

I'm surprised, in my heart, that the group have been allowed to buy Newcastle. My head is not surprised as we should all have realised by now, money is king these days, and they certainly have a lot of it...so there will be no stopping them by the Premier League, despite the questions. I messaged a mate who supports them, and he said he is happy Ashley is gone, and so the club can move forward, but he has had to put his moral compass to one side in order to be happy about it. Will be interesting to see if they show up to any evening games in Newcastle in December/January...slightly different climate than in Saudi Arabia!

As for Messi vs Ronaldo...both brilliant to watch. Prefer Messi because when I watch him, I feel he just gets on with it and is brilliant. Ronaldo farts around doing step overs and trying to be too fancy, which often doesn't work out. Also, still get angry remembering Ronaldo's wink after getting Rooney sent off.

"Non QPR football thread" can not remove the fact that the greatest football team the World has ever seen was QPR's Parkes, Clement, McClintock, Webbie, Gillard, Leach, Masson, Gerryatrick, Bowles, Thomas, Givens and Hollins. Stan Bowles was no doubt the Worlds greatest ever player with the likes of Lazarus, Marsh, Currie, Stainrod, Roeder, Wegerlie, Hazell, Seaman, Ferdinand, Sinclair, Adel, Hill, Eze and others not far behind.

Where an Argentinan/Spanish tax Mess, a US B movie actor RonalRegano, the stunning singer Madonnas whose studs nevertheless wouldn't put off many', or Pele who seemed to only play in black and white, all figure in this is beyond me.

Yes but. Easy to say when you're not. I'm not ready to hand out good citizenship awards to the corrupt bastards from that part of the world who have ruined competitive football in England at Citeh or one of the saintly characters from Russia who plundered that country's wealth, handed it over to gangsters and then back to Putin's communists and then fight battles against each other through the High Court while claiming Legal Aid because the billions in their control are all tucked away in offshore accounts and corporate stately homes... Newcastle have done their penance for the last 50 years and their fans deserve a chance to compete on an even playing field. Anyway, suspending your support? How about ending your support for any government that is prepared to sell arms to the Saudis?.

Mmm. I remember that. It took about 120 minutes of the new season for them to kiss and make up and for United fans to forgive him. Cheating is endemic. Depends on the colour of the glasses you view the incident through. f they are rose-tinted you put it down to being 'professional'.

If footballers want to lecture us on morality and equality issues, then I expect them to boycott tournaments that are held in countries that have vile human rights records, and also leave clubs owned by people from those very same countries.

Newcastle's new Saudi Arabian owner that will have 80% of the club is the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, called Public Investment Fund. It has assets of 700 billion and is chaired by...Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The same man whose fingerprints were all over the state sanctioned murder of independent journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. So, whatever guarantees were given to that well known money-tart, the Premier League, Newcastle will effectively be controlled by a murderer.

It would be the equivalent of Chelsea being owned by Vladimir Putin, since so far as I know, Roman Abramovitch has not murdered anyone.

I sense this change of ownership, however much Ashley was hated, could come back to haunt Newcastle in years to come.

I don't know what UK arms sales to Saudi Arabia have been like post Khashoggi, but I'd be uncomfortable if they continue to a state run by a psychopathic tyrant like bin Salman.
