I was just reading elsewhere that Chris Kavanagh was having a busy week. VAR for the Palace v Brighton match on Monday, the Assistant VAR for Benfica v Barca last night. So he has to go from Manchester to Stockley Park and back, then fly to Portugal and back. That's a lot of pissing about for someone that's not even reffing. Then it occurred to me that he's probably going to be a bit ****ed for this weekend. Lots of travel, missing out on sleep due to the times and not at his best. It then became obvious that he'd be in charge of our game. Because of course he is.
With the International break now nearly with us, I reckon we could see some well known names get the heavo in the next few days. In no particular order, I suggest Mick McCarthy will be booted by Cardiff, Joey Barton by Bristol Rovers and Phil Brown by Southend. And I’m not sure Colin is that safe at Middlesbrough.
Remember the time on Old606 somebody was saying Phil Brown as a potential improvement on Ramos? Oh boy, that one aged poorly...
McCarthy made some player and tactical changes today and the performance was greatly improved but Cardiff lost courtesy of a Junior Hoilett - former City player - strike. Too little, too late for McCarthy, Monday Megabus to wherever I hope.
That was Citizen Kane (who claimed that Coyle would bring some emerging player called Samir Nasri to the club) .
I've just seen some relatively recently posted match highlights for games in and around 60/61... A couple of Jimmy Greaves goals in the last one...and the game was nearly abandoned due to pitch invasions...a pretty early outlier of later issues. And four in one game here - he loved playing against Forest.. Anyway...enjoy, if you've not seen them before...or for a very long time, for some. There's a lot of fabulous stuff to look at... https://www.youtube.com/user/theheavyroller/videos
Brilliant watching Bobby Smith, Cliff Jones & Terry Dyson chatting about out Glory Days. I'd love to know what year that was recorded. Any ideas? I do hope Smithy (stateside) sees this as it is so nostalgic to our time at the Lane. Everything seemed so much better then. Atmosphere, volume, lack of cheating etc. I could go on! I s'pose everyone there in those days were genuine fans, no corporates. Anyway the memories evoked, listening to the lads talking about the atmosphere you could cut with a knife & the joy of the parade with the band at Royal Dance Hall playing Glory Glory on the roof, I remember it so well. Thanks for posting that Brian, I am swimming in nostalgia!
No, I do not remember any Ladies team back then. It was so nice listening to the three of them reminiscing, I was back there with them!
The FA banned women's football on it's members pitches for 50 years from 1921 to 1971. It was very well attended prior to that.
The first game after Blanchflower scored the penalty, no kissing or cuddling just a hand shake and a hearty pat on the back The crowd was 65,000 , I bet it came over the tannoy 37,500 for tax reasons 2nd game at Citeh, those awful chaps from Tottenham are upto those hugging and kissing antics again The pitch was cutting up a bit it was a swamp
