According to Steve Tucker and co. we were supposed to have the fittest squad in the Championship, be more of a team than last year, work harder, be more difficult to beat - and make use of this fantastic 'new' science based individual training and fitness regime. So how come we've had more injuries than I can ever remember, and we twice throw away a lead at Peterboro (this following an away defeat and a lucky home draw - let's face it Ipswich were better than us). Simple truth, forget all the hype about what a breath of fresh air Malky is ..... blah blah blah - it's results that speak loudest. Summary (based on evidence so far this season): WE'RE NOT VERY GOOD. Eight goals shipped in three games .... Ben Turner anyone? Runs OK when he gets going, turns like the Titanic. We can't hold a lead, but now teams aren't afraid of us - they know we can't do them on the break any more. Gone are the days of winning nine away games in a season folks.
Too early to turn against Malky and you can't legislate against the sort of injuries suffered although some could be down to too many games as a result of having a small squad where rotation is not possible. Yes, the defence is an issue and the dropping of Gerrard a mystery although he is on 4 bookings so perhaps Turner needed to be blooded to give match fit cover when gezza gets his 5th as he surely will. Lack of pace also a problem as I said elsewhere today. Good loan signings with pace essential.
It's not a case of loving Malky, it is a case of watching a team perform with some passion and the club stabilizing. After a massive clearout, I am not expecting us to be doing much more than being a competitive top half team this season and then push on next year.
Love him or loathe him, he is our manager and we have to support him, as Siam says after the massive clear out well it was going to take time to rebuild, at the moment we have a hard working side, that is hard to beat when we have our 1st XI out, we have to bring in a player or players with a bit of flair who can unlock a defence and turn the draws into wins, and the sooner the better
where has anyone called for the manager to get sacked, i suggest you read the thread again before you post that sort of crap on here neither has anyone said the players are 'under performing' - in fact if anything they are performing above their abilities, something we didnt have last year
As long as the guy shows more passion than DJ did (by the way I didn’t dislike DJ) then he is ok by me. He is trying and has a massive job on his hands to turn around a team in one season. I would still be happy with a mid table finish this year and build on what we have next year.
I wasn't really getting at Malky - just the media fools (and other fools) who seemed to worship everything he said and did when he arrived. It was just insane to expect worse players to achieve decent results - no amount of praising Malky is going to change the fact that we are not as good as last year. Working hard does not fully compensate for not being quick enough or good enough at the game. I believe he needs - and should be given - time, but let's be more realistic about what we are faced with this season and what our expectations should be. The media led 'I love Malky he's so wonderful' trend was a big mistake. It led fans to expect more than we can possibly achieve this season.
Malky was brought in to take us to the next level, at the moment it isn't looking likely, a average side with a good work ethic at the moment. Some players will get better given time and some will fall away. More strength in depth needed and better players need to be brought in if we are to end the season in the top half. What the boards thoughts on the season isn't too clear, they removed DJ as he'd had a fair crack but didn't look as if he could do any more. Malky is rebuilding and patience is needed but how much time will the board give him?
