I think there's a significant difference between time wasting by hitting the deck and taking it to the corner. In the latter case, the opposition still has a chance to win the ball which, indeed, PNE did on at least one occasion. I suppose all clubs do it but it seems to me that PNE must incorporate it in their training since they seem so accomplished at it.
You’ll be telling me they didn’t really get two serious injuries in between the equaliser going in and the match re-starting next. Greg Cunningham ffs. Can’t believe no one has broken that ****’s legs yet.
TBF, I think Preston have recruited too many cynical no nonsense managers over the years who have once had a modicum of success once and bring a bit of old school 1st division/Premier league dark arts. The problem is this comes from the bad old days when the aim was to get noses in front and then try to run the clock down by putting ten men behind the ball while throwing themselves to the ground and bending the ref's ear over every single decision. Take our winning goal yesterday. If their defender had concentrated on keeping or winning the ball back and stay on his feet instead of trying to claim a false foul by Dykes, we might never have won it back. Goal. The reaction? A collective whine to the ref that it's not fair The ref was in exactly the right position to see the whole episode. Perhaps if he had booked a couple of them there and then that might stamp it out . The Prem has moved a long way from that cynical standpoint. When Preston choose a manager from the lower leagues who has built a winning side that tries to win games by scoring a lot of goals that culture may change.
Sht’housery is more commonplace than ever now … the time wasting by holding/throwing away/feigning injury is as more annoying than the diving for me (as it happens all over the pitch). Was good to see one of our guys push the PNE defender away for trying to hold on to the ball when we equalised. We really wanted to get back into them - got to love our team enthusiasm and ‘never say die’ attitude.
Maguire was stood on by Rob Dickie then pulled a hamstring hence he went down even your keeper wanted play stopped for him but it’s all about opinions and we differ on things no issues on that whatsoever
The dark arts are so common place now but when it's your main tactic for the game I ****ing love it when it backfires.
While watching the EFL show, I noticed the commentary which reminded us that only the top two have scored more than us. If we could just shore up the defence a bit...
I wonder how we stand with % of chances converted. Because again yesterday we made loads of chances, like the Bristol game.
I suppose it depends on how you define chances but in the last three games we've had 16 shots on target and 8 goals. Not too shabby I suspect though should do comparison with other teams for more meaning.
To be fair we have created alot of chances, it all boils down to a combination of not being clinical enough and running into keepers in inspired form. I wouldn't be surprised if we put 5 or 6 past someone reasonably soon
Clives report.... https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footb.../news/55939/all-the-time-in-the-world--report Getting "Prestoned" with their time wasting -
I do enjoy reading Clive’s reports, the gallows-style humour and metaphors make me chuckle out loud. I even share some reports with mates who support other clubs and they enjoy them too. Makes him quite unique and one of ours
