Just saw in the news that Ronaldo has retired at the age of 34. For me, he's another one of these brilliant footballers who could have achieved a lot more if not for injuries and conditioning problems. Great player though, and World Cup winner.
I remember seeing him in Germany during the World Cup and although he was getting older, he was still a great player to watch. Scored his record 15th world cup goal in that game too, very good player indeed.
Not taking anything away from him before anyone says anything. He is amazing and definatly in my all time starting XI.
Yes, being a bit porky isn't the best thing if you have dodgy knees. At his best though he was one of the greatest strikers of all time.
Watched him play on tv for Corinthians about 6 months back, was in laughable shape for a professional footballer.
There was one point in that video when he had his head down-it could be Folan! one of the new emoticons on here looks like Folan actually:

In general terms, there was nothing left to do! He won 2 World Cups and was World Player of the Year on 3 occasions, so I don't think there was much more he could have done. Not to mention the UEFA Cup, La Liga, the Spanish Cup... As an individual, he was an amazing player, and his goalscoring record was ridiculous. And I'll never forget that hat-trick against Man United in the Champions League.
Had the ability to be the greatest forward of all time and probley only needed a few more injury free seasons to prove that, his scoring records for psv and barcelona were phenomenal. his injuries robbed us of a star to be fair, every season he played over 30 games he scored over 20 goals. 247 in 343 games at mostly top level football in Italy and spain with so many injuries is unreal.
That hattrick vs Man U was utterly devastating, what a fantastic player he was for a long long time, someone commented second only to Messi, i'd say at the moment he is above Messi and the best player i've seen in my life time, that could change though but Messi needs to do it at a world cup first

I read this morning he has a thyroid problem that causes his weight issues so maybe he has been harshly criticised for not looking after himself properly. His goalscoring record is unbelievable, even after the knee issues kicked in.
Coming back to this thread, I was thinking of starting another thread asking which Ronaldo is the better one? My vote goes to the original one, just an awesome finisher and played mostly with a smile on his face, unlike the winker Ronaldo!
