At the end of the day we scored 2 and they scored 0. Did we deserve to win? Yes, the game is all about out scoring your opponent. We did just that.

Magennis lost his place through injury. We are saying the same about Eaves.

I think most people will agree a tough division with small margins..Boro did not take their chances and payed the price..we are short on genuine talent but the attitude is good..survival would be a massive achievement..

Yep. It's a game of fine margins and on this occasion it came off, we all loved it and all is well. But the defender might have got a foot in and they might have snuck a late equaliser in the remaining time. Then the narrative would've been very different; crap performance, lucky to be ahead, no plan B, why didn't he go to a back 4 to see it out, etc etc.

Geez. If that was a boxing match the ref would have demanded more effort from City or he'd stop it. Thankfully, it seemed to work.

I don’t think Eaves was offside at all, until Wilks cut back to shoot by which time he was never passing anyway?

Actually you're right, he's nowhere near. He did stray offside when I watched this morning with a hangover.

Agreed, if those highlights are representative of the match there was only one team in it....until we scored. Also KLP didn't look arsed until he swiped that volley. Wilks looks like he's carrying a few extra pounds, yes he's solid but there's extra by the looks of it.

Not sure the highights tell the full story re KLP, He really put in a shift. A heat map would show he spent a lot of the time at left back, but he popped up at right back and one occasion he was clearing it as a centre back!

Fair enough, just the highlights showed him jogging back after we lost possession and Boro were bearing down on our box.

Well I ain't seen the highlights but they clearly weren't representative. KLP, the whole team and the fans who were there were well up for it. What I'm seeing on here doesn't refect at all how it felt being there. Young team gets big win on a wet afternoon perfect for football. A great afternoon.

Find it really strange people are slating Wilks for taking the shot on and scoring instead of side-passing it to Eaves. Maybe it's just me but I want my forwards to be greedy and clinical in those situations. It's a one-on-one for ****'s sake. That one goal could do wonders for Wilk's confidence as it's his first goal of the season after a slow start by him due to injuries and being off-form in recent games. Let the lad have his goal. Kin 'ell.

I think it's perfectly clear why; he took a needless risk probably making us less likely to score. This time it came off and it doesn't matter, but it's not great habit. He cost us goals a couple of times last season making similar decisions.

Yeah, Diamé scoring that goal against Wednesday was a needless risk too. Should've passed to Snodgrass, the **** him. Still keeps me up at night.

He took it well. Justified himself. Thats what you want from a striker.

This all comes down to decision-making, the good players know when to pass and when to go themselves. Wilk's so far hasn't grasped that art, IMO he should have passed as that had a higher percentage of getting the goal, but thankfully this time he scored.

I've noticed when running with the ball, he doesn't often get his head up and looks what other options are on, the better players do.

    Agree with this.

In the moment I doubt that Wilks actually knew that Eaves was alongside him.

His awareness of who is around him only seems to kick in when he finds himself blocked and unable to get a shot away.

You can look at this in one of two ways: single minded determination to score or a lack of vision.

Sometimes he scores and sometimes he looks like a greedy get who won't pass.

Don't think he's for changing now.

As posters have said I'm afraid Wilks decision making is dodgy at best, countless times he just gets his head down and goes direct, it's an obvious lack of vision for me, I commented previously we had a similar prospect at the club a few years back who was taken to a side and taught about playing in a team, who was crafted into a half decent striker by an old head. That individual was one Billy Whitehurst, who was mentored by Chillo. I see lots of Whitehurst in Wilks, a big unit capable of more but needing some guidance, he isn't properly fit and I also think he is so desperate to prove himself at this level it's further effecting his decision making, but I do feel if he was taken under the wing of someone like Kevin Phillips or Nick Barmy he would be twice the player. I would have suggested Deano, but I fear Deano struggles to sort himself out let alone anyone else, despite him being a City legend

I want forwards to be selfish, greedy and arrogant.
We had the same conversations over a Wilks penalty.
Eaves did the right thing but would a goal have stood if he had been passed the ball? I don’t think so.
Malek scored and that is all we need to know. Boro missed their open chances.
