I'd definitely agree with you QT for the first 20 minutes we dominated...and for the last 15 we rode our luck and scored twice. However we did it I'll take it. We need some luck. With everyone back fit we'll see how good we are.
Before I read all the posts and catch up well what a surprise. I'm not talking about the change in formation or the result, I'm referring to the bloody weather. BBC forecast said light rain showers. My .
Hope we have but only time will tell, Thought it was interesting to hear McCann say Wilder called him to say how much he admired city's effort against Stoke. Bet he also said try 352.
Attackers have to stay at least a metre from the wall on free kicks, the 23 was obviously too close, hankfully the ref spotted it.
Eaves also wasn’t caught offside 49 times. He was the perfect foil today. Give him a run of games his performance today deserves that.
That result has been coming for a couple of weeks now, great to see us continiue to play with confidence despite results being against us. It struck me today that we look a worse team when Matt Smith starts - I've nothing against him, he looks a decent player but he offers a fraction of what Cannon did today, for instance.
Based on Cannon's performances this week it's baffling that we haven't seen more of him before now. He looks a really good all-round midfielder, and so much better on the ball than I expected from someone who's been warming our bench. I really like the way he can twist and turn in possession to create space for a cross or pass.
Oh, and I sort of agree that the result has been coming for a while. It was basically the same game as the Bournemouth one, but with us getting a bit more luck in front of goal. In both games we defended well but didn't create much, could easily have lost but for excellent Ingram saves or won with a bit of luck at the other end. Today we got that luck with the KLP goal. We still need to get a lot better in our attacking play if we're going to win more regularly, but our defending is getting there.
In McCann post match interview with RH he played down the suggestion there was a different formation, so you could well be not far from the truth.
We certainly deserve to win, we looked much better going forward with this system, as many have been harping on about for a while now. Finally, McCann, probably by accident, had to go with 3 at the back and 2 up front. Ingram had a great game, didn't have a great deal to do, but when called on was up to the task. Credit to him for the Sporor chance where he put it past the post, Ingram's quickness to get out to him, and his angles contributed to him missing. Bernard and Greaves, both had very good games, and Smallwood Cannon and Mocur were good too. I was pleased for both Emmanuel and Eave's, who both did well and I thought KLP look more like his old self. Pity his Windassesque shot went down as an OG, it deserved to be credited to him. Great to have 3 points going into the international break, with Huddlestone and Honeyman to come back let's hope we can push on from here.
I think Wilkes makes a massive difference. He gives us good outlet. We just don't really have anyone else who takes on and commits players like him. Does anyone know when Honeyman is back? I seem to remember he out for the first 6 or 7 players.
"And Hull City, for the first time this season, take the lead" Preston!? If he'd said "scored first" I would have agreed with him.
