MOD's please merge if already done elsewhere. Just got a email about this. I might be interested, but wonder what more educated people think? I know the last one turned in to a nightmare, which I thought at the time.
The club have issued a bond offering for prospective investors, decent return on investment, plus 25% bonus if we get promoted in the next five years. Pre-registration link below: https://bit.ly/3m88iG2
Had a really quick look through the FAQ and see it’s not covered by the FSCS and, if I’m reading it correctly, no returns are guaranteed. 5% over 5 years ( plus 3% QPR credit) doesn’t seem that great a deal if I’m honest but will appeal to fans who want a nice shiny badge to show their loyalty. And for the gamblers..25% on us going up in 5 years is tempting Again I’ve only had a really quick look so might be getting some info incorrect. NB Just seen its 5% per annum which is better of course…..did say I was reading it quick (while picking kids up from school)
I'm not educated on the subject either but like Stainesey, I had a quick look and thought it was a good deal. Interest rates are so low, you get **** all leaving your money in the bank. I pre-registered for it on the basis that I may invest a relatively small sum. I would be interested to know what happened the last one?
If I was thinking about this opportunity purely in investment terms, I wouldn't go for it. I'd hope to make more than 5% per annum from a decent index fund over a five year period, and crucially for me at least, the money you put into these bonds is highly illiquid as I don't imagine there is going to be a whole bunch of buyers if you suddenly need to sell your bonds for whatever reason. I'd personally discount the possibility of the 25% promotion bonus as - while I'd love it to happen - it's basically a gamble and I don't want to make a gamble with my savings. We shouldn't discount the 3% QPR credit however, as depending on how much you put in that could be a decent amount of your ST each year, or a few match tickets. But, this isn't just about money. I quite like the idea of having more of a stake in the club, and making a small amount of money while helping the club I'm already emotionally invested in is no bad thing imo. I'm tempted. Have sounded the idea out with a few financially savvy friends who are not QPR to check I'm not falling for something stupid, and they didn't see major issues.
I love my club and spend cash on a couple of season tickets, too many overpriced pies and at least one new shirt each year. I also cough up the tenner to watch most away games available on QPR player. I am by no means a sophisticated investor but the head has to sometimes rule the heart. Investing in an organisation whose core business looses many millions each year and has an abysmal track record of huge losses and an administration, operating in a volatile industry, is a no no. I don’t know where the sudden profits are going to emerge from to allow a 5%+ coupon. Sorry to be a downer on this but for me I’d do no more than the minimum investment and only to feel I have supported the scheme/club.
Damn you and your sensibleness. I was looking forward to wearing my Gold Bondholders lapel pin with pride.
For those with short memories a reminder of a sizeable Chris Wright turkey and a following story about one of Ken Bates's. Invest in a football club at your peril... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2001/apr/07/sport.comment?CMP=gu_com
Just got forwarded this by a mate and asked if I would be investing. As much as I love my club, having seen the way we've been run in the last decade, and promises of new stadiums, training facilities and progress...which has never materialised. Seems that from a financial perspective, this is a poor investment, but as an opportunity to contribute it could work.
I think this is for folk who can stump up some cash, which they can afford to lose, and who will enjoy the kudos of owning a teeny bit of the QPR training ground. There will probably be some special preening from the club for those who do. On that basis, might have been tempted for a small amount only. Undecided.
I meant to put my two pence in earlier. I, personally, would not trust the club with my money. Look, we may have things in order on the pitch nowadays but the club is still so badly run on many levels. There are so many basic things they still cannot get right, such as the box office (****ing chaos), electronic ticketing/scanners, having adequate tills and servers on the food stands, etc. They've breached GDPR with me before. So, although the rates sound ok and the potential of a 25% extra if we go up sounds tempting, I just cannot trust my money with Lee Hoos and his gang, considering that he still hasn't sorted out all the above.
Lee Hoos on the podcast this week. The club are hoping to raise just over £6 Million, with the owners stumping up the remainer (total £20M). Apparently they are well on their way, with a lot of investors coming from outwith our fanbase, attracted by the annual 5% and the potential 25% promotion bonus. However, if you're hoping the 3% QPR cash bonus is going to help pay for your season ticket, this isn't it as it isn't redeemable against that - multiple reasons, but basically season tickets are the biggest income the club have and they don't want to bite into that. Well worth a listen if you want to know a bit more about the bond scheme. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footb.../the-names-bond-training-ground-bond--podcast
