Morning, all. Hope everyone on the better side of well.

Was chuffed to see Perfect Power oblige at the weekend and felt he did it very well given his draw and the fact that the race didn't really go smoothly, or to plan, for him. The old boy has proved himself, in my opinion, to be an outstanding 2YO and he has a most impressive CV (the speed and precocity to win at Royal Ascot over 5 furlongs and then the class to win 2 Group 1's over 6 furlongs - the Morny and Middle Park). Where he goes after this season though must be a topic of hot debate for connections. Is it (i) train him for the 2,000 Guineas, (ii) train him for the Commonwealth Cup, (iii) train him with an eye on both races or (iv) and this will greatly distress the 'racing purists' (cor blimey remember them?!?) take the view that there is a fair chance he won't progress from hereon in and retire him to the stallion ranks with immediate effect??? In many ways a lovely decision to have to make but still a difficult one.

Must confess, also on Saturday, I fell a bit in love with the Godolphin horse, Coroebus. Although defeated I felt his original burst of speed was something exceptional. Rarely, people, do you see something like that and to me that marks him down as a very special horse. Not usually a Godolphin fan but really, really, really liked this performance.

Meanwhile, I see that Princess Camilla's filly, Dark Motive, was given a perch over hurdles this morn. A mark of 98. Seems more than fair to me and I look forward to her handicapping bow. What do we think though, team, is 98 a nice figure for Dark Motive???

And finally...on to ITV Racing. I felt that Jane Mangan made an excellent debut at the Cambridgeshire meet. Knowledgeable, informative and entertaining. And it was also a total delight to watch Francesca Cumani and Jason Weaver do their Lady of the Manor / cheeky, jovial Footman routine once again. This act (which really should be on the stage) isn't everyone's cup of tea but to me is hilarious and brilliant. Top marks.

Very tricky 19 runner Listed race at Cork but at least that means decent odds.

I thought Joseph O'Brien's Queenship stood out. She has been absent since April but she looked one to follow on her only start of the season so far, when winning from 1 lb out of the Handicap by five lengths off an 85 rating. Winners have come from that contest and Queenship was raised to 96 afterwards. I am sure she would have started at a short price in her next race had it been a Handicap but the absence and step up to Listed Class mean she is 5/1 today.

Queenship travelled smoothly last time she ran and it was a soft ground win, so today's yielding going should hold no fears. Any improvement from the thrice raced filly puts her right in the mix and she could have more to offer if she strips fit today.

Bopedro has had a good season. He has reached his best ever mark now on 107 and has found improvement at the age of 5. He seems sure to give a decent account in Listed company now that his Handicap Rating is on the high side. He concedes 9 lb to Queenship though and that may make the difference.

    4.05 Cork Queenship 5/1

Agree re Jane Mangan - she had Ryan Moore positively gushing.

I’m sure Princess Camilla will be delighted with 98 for Dark Motive - although I’m sure any “plotting” going on will be done by Chips Keswick with his astute financial mind (nudge nudge, wink wink).

Any word from the regular readers on the impact of fuel shortages? As long as Dark Motive’s horse box isn’t impacted eh?

Todays racing is all about the rain, if they don't get masses then I think old Fergal is going to have a wonderful day at Worcester. Not quite the shorts weather today at Worcester but hopefully it doesn't set in with heavy rain all afternoon.

    Legs are too long.

Ground looks decent still, so Coral looks to have a great chance today

Queenship had problems getting a run but was travelling well enough for the jockey to be able to negotiate a series of weaves and hit the front, thereafter it was pretty much over, although she was closed down slightly late.

Sure to be bumped up the weights now, her future probably lies outwith Handicap races. She had a bit to spare today and was entitled to have been rusty.

The soft ground probably helped Queenship but I think it went against forecast horse Bopedro but he still ran well enough in 6th place.

Nice drift out to 7/1 for Queenship, which helped.

Hard for me to understand why Up Helly Aa was less than half the odds of the winner at 10/3 Fav, considering he hasn't won for two years.

Fergal has some nice horses in for the winter, he has picked up Gumball who I think could win a big handicap chase this season.

I expect he will go prominently in his races. Be very interesting to see which race they target first time out.

Might he be aimed at the old Mackeson / Paddy Power Gold Cup? No idea what it is called these days. Can’t remember whether he get 2 and a half or if he is a pure 2-miler?

He is a pure 2 miler, I'd be surprised to see him over further in the short term.

I know what you mean but Triumph Hurdle runners often get (much) further so it might be worth a try if they can get him to settle.
