just seen it. The guy that was offside came back and didn’t get involved and the one that the ball fell to was clearly on.

got them confused with each other

How many headers did we win today? Matip and Van Dijk were awful

it wasn’t just them. Many of the headers lost we’re in Fabinho territory….frankly we went missing all over the park. It’s a bad day at the office for sure but a) we didn’t lose and b) we’re top of the table (for now)

I wouldn't say they were awful but they certainly weren't up to their usually sublime standards

Alison was woeful too, glue under his boots, never came off his line as usual.

Crazy game, very entertaining. Credit to Brentford for their energy and desire, two front men just gave VvD and Joel plenty to do.

Top after 6 games, happy as **** :emoticon-0165-muscl

Van dijk.won all his and even.sat.on a.guy to set up an attack that lead to a goal

    Matip.was absolutely.dominated.

But what I want to know is at 3-2 why was jota.not pulled off and milner put on to.shore up that left side.and stop the balls in..the cbs were pulled.out of the middle constantly and trent left.with 2-3.players on him at the back stick

It was really poor tactically imo. Such a simply hoof.it in long after drawing the cbs short type tactic. All 3 of.their goals should.have been defended better out.wdie.but.also in the box the efforts to clear were rubbish.

The defending was **** against AC Milan as well: 2-0 to the good, then we ****ed it up. The defence has gone to mush again. We only just won that one and we were lucky to get away with that draw yesterday. And we keep on and on missing chances.

I'll forgive Brentford a tiny bit if they turn up the heat against our rivals but they bet they bloody won't.

We're top now which is great (Manure's missed penalty! <laugh>) but we won't be top for long if we keep messing about

I think personally we need to think about the tactics being applied.

In effect we played 424 v milan. Henderson was everywhere but with the ball. He was chasing about pressing high up and asked to do it.

Thats great when a side wants to pass it short.

If you watch yesterday we were chasing up then seeing the ball sail miles over their heads belit even in a 4231 henderson as the second 6 was still chasing up. This was imo poor tactically and in effect gambling rather than the right thing v milan.

It wasnt even the first long ball that killed us v brentford. It was cross in when no midfielder was there to help close off the long deep cross and the cbs were pull out of the middle due to the gaps.

If we said 10 men behind the ball at 3-2 I am sure we would have won handily. Just close the gaps and let the big cbs nod those long hoofs out.

We in effect compounded the issues brentford posed us through hard work and willingness to pile men on. We chased them up the park and left a few lads to cope with the waves of runners chasing the hoof.

Another tactic that could have worked was to go 3 at the back and remove one of the 4 forwards.

    Tuchel wouldn't even think twice.

Imo jones scored and we had a sub ready to go to chase the win but made the sub anyway and imo then thought hmmm better not change the thinking. That was wrong.

If we put konate on there and put 3 cbs then none of those crosses would have meant a thing.

It's about balance. We stopped playing at 3-2 (aka stopped really trying to pressure them to score when we had it) but didnt stop getting ahead of the ball or gambling with position closing down. (Whne they had it) It was just plain poor balance and the worst of both worlds.

In short if you are going to protect a lead then bloody well protect it . Otherwise go at them and keep going and win 5-4

I'd agree that that was a substitution designed to get us the goal we'd already got, and we should have changed it. If we'd let Brentford throw everything at us after that and just defended properly we could have got another breakaway goal anyway without Bobby.
It's long been evident that the way to play teams like us or City is to go at them - it's risky, but it's the best way.
Chelsea did everything wrong against City and got what they deserved - Brentford got what they deserved too.

To a large extent we were both out fought and out thought .
Brentford fully deserved what they got and wished i could have watched that game as a neutral <laugh>

Yes watching their fans enjoy the experience was nice.

Though in truth it having an uppity internet warrior bee helps a lot in not disliking them.

Midfield is a problem. Thiago in the centre would control that game.
