Recent history between Derby and Leeds is fraught and no love loss for me. A bent owner who cheated his way through the last few seasons to try and win promotion to the Prem. He spent huge on players and they fell just short, he carried on for a 2nd season and fell short again. To have another go he cooked the books and made it to the play off final, falling short again. Yes Derby replaced Leeds at Wembley but by cheating. Morris was allowed to get away with this because the former head of the EFL had allowed him to do his accounts using a new amortisation formula. Shaun Harvey we know well as he was Bates’s right hand man and chief crook yet somehow he git the top job at the EFL taking over from Lord Haw Haw the man who deducted 15 points from us. How did Harvey get that job because remember he was the only chief exec of a football club that had been in administration 3 times. When concerns were raises about Morris and Derby Sean Harvey could see what was happening and surprisingly resigned almost immediately, stating that it was a good time to leave. Why did no journo not try and find out why? It seemed obvious that Harvey took cash drom Morris to write him a note saying the new accounting formula was sound. Harvey left pretty quick with a £5m hand out too. Why has it taken 3 years to investigate and sanction Derby? The EFL knew FFFP rules had been broken, broken badly. Last season skint Derby struggled and should have been deducted points for breaking rules but somehow were’nt. they managed to stay up by 1 point, but Wycombe were telling everyone that they should stay up and Derby be relegated. Indeed the fixture list for this season had 2 options, one with Derby and one without and included Wycombe. Everyone could see Derby were cheats but for some reason maybe because Morris was on the EFL Board, but it was going to get a points deduction this new season, why? So Wycombe were relegated. New season and hey presto Derby get a points deduction of 12 with 3 being held back. So 9 points deducted already at the start of the new season. Once that happens Derby then go into administration and will get a load more points deducted. But what about poor Wycombe who should still be in the Championship. Why should Derby’s cheating punish another football club. Wycombe will probably be taking the EFL to court and I dont blame them. The owner if Wycombe yesterday said it has cost his club £10m by not being in the Championship just in the usual way, but another £5m minimum in fees and endorsements the club had to forego. He said why should my shareholders get up to £20m less than they were legally entitled to just because the EFL didnt do their job and everyone knew what Derby would do if they delayed the points deduction from last season to this
Great Post Doc, Amazing the amount of pundits telling us we should all worry for Derby and not take the mick or revel in their downfall. They have cheated, cheated again, been arrogant about not getting caught and then cheated again. Of course we are gonna revel in it, it's been too long coming
The EFL and Premier League should recruit some top Financial auditors to investigate any club seen to be evasive about their accounts, when they are not busy investigating alleged corrupt clubs books they should also have the right to do spot checks randomly on any club. For what is a multi billion pound industry all clubs need to be protected from unscrupulous owners.
Ive always said these people all need to be changed because they don't have a clue what they are doing. Some are living in cloud cuckoo land don't get me started on the 3 way panel. The ones I feel sorry for are Wycombe. Derby should hang their heads in shame and I hope they get all they deserve in whatever that maybe in the future.
