Anybody watch the Schumacher documentary yet? I was a bit let down by it to be honest. There's a great personal and racing story to tell there, and feel like it accomplished neither particularly well. Curious to know others thoughts.
The Senna documentary took a few liberties, but was brilliant. Down side of it is that it's kind of put Senna in some kind of god like status for some. Brilliant watch tho. This Schumacher one feels like it just spends a lot of time trying to tell us that Schumacher was a nice, normal bloke, but with fairly dull anecdotes. Some of the early stuff from carting was interesting, but it never really focused on the racing outside of collisions...and the way they cover Senna's death in it was pretty appalling. Also...it just omits so much, and the subtitles are just awful with the way they move around the screen.
I haven't yet watched it but from what I have heard is the best bits are the bits from/about other drivers?
I have no desire to watch it. I remember his era, some of the good and some of the bad. Sure, plenty I will have forgotten I guess but I have my image of him as a man, I remember some of his more famous duals. I remember him waving when running back to the pits after crashing at Copse Corner. His injury is personal and I wish him well. I know his family have a book, written by my nephew, who went on a similar brain injury journey and I hope helped in some small way in Michael's own struggles. I fully understand his wife's recent comment, ''He is there, just different''.
Schumacher was an unbelievable talent. Ruthless, determined, uncompromising. One of the best the sport has seen. I just don't feel it did any of that justice. It's a weird watch. Just poorly done I feel.
Which expresses my view. I prefer to remember and honour him with the memories and opinion I have. Like him or loath him, he had talent. I find it very sad that a man, who was good at many other things, has been cut down in an instant, changing not only his but other peoples lives too. I was in the same hospital he was in only a year earlier. It made him real, not just a celeb, when the news came in about his accident and in part is why I feel just to remember him with my own thoughts.
I’d say that this is like “an introduction to Michael Schumacher” for the masses- there is SO much more ground it could (and should) have covered. Some good bits, Corrina Schumacher is a real star that stood by his side, but there could have been so much more action- particularly the Raikonnen, Montoya and Alonso years.
Not even sure it's an introduction... I wouldn't leave it thinking "wow, this guy was one of the greats" or get a real sense of his achievements. Corrina was good, Mick was heartbreaking... The way he talks leaves you feeling that Michael really is in a truly awful condition.
Ineos Britannia and Mercedes F1 join forces for America's Cup challenge Sir Ben Ainslie's Ineos Britannia has joined forces with the Mercedes Formula 1 team in their quest to win the next America's Cup. Ainslie and Ineos hope Mercedes F1's technology combined with his team's sailing expertise will produce a boat that can challenge for victory in 2024. From the beeb, at https://www.bbc.com/sport/sailing/58792679 Awkward.
Sailing is my passion and have had the opportunity to meet a few of the sports stars. It would be good to see us take that cup. I was offered the opportunity to experience the previous America's cup racing boat but haven't had the time yet but have helmed Sir Francis Chichester's yacht, Gipsy Moth. He was incredibly brave. A different era. I feel sorry for Alex Thompson, he has had dreadful luck. He pushes the limits though.
didn't Newey try to win that a few years ago? IIRC one of his terms for agreeing to sign an extension to his RBR contract was to be given the time to do it.
Yeah... Thought that was when he was with McLaren for some reason though. The past is just becoming a fog.
Big Ern is right I think, it was some years ago at Red Bull that he stepped back to take on a new challenge. James Allison is involved this time I believe. Every little helps. I knew one of the guys involved in the Olympic racing and he was explaining to me that it is very fine margins, even down to the shackle design. He had a lot of discussions when negotiating for the appropriate budget.
Amusing but lashing out with a kick is not a good image, whatever the circumstance. The woman who kicked and punched a horse for not getting in the trailer is facing death threats to such an extent she and her family have had to move out of their home, suspended from her job and removed from her position with the local pony club. The RSPCA is investigating her. Pushing Ocon around, kicking his car, smashing into other cars, in F1 all is forgiven or even supported by his bosses and/or someone elses fault. Hmmm?
